Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for Yellowjackets season 2, episode 3. Yellowjackets season 2 episode 3 had a fair few confusing elements, especially when it came to its ending. Since episode 2's conclusion went completely off the rails, the wait for the aftermath that episode 3 would depict seemed much longer than normal. After all, episode 2 finally featured the cannibalism that audiences had been waiting for, and the nauseating scene certainly didn't disappoint. However, the biggest question the penultimate moment left in its wake was how the girls would react in the aftermath of their very first cannibalistic feeding frenzy.

With Yellowjackets season 2 episode 2's most shocking moment setting up the next installment, it's wholly understandable that none of the girls wanted breakfast the next morning. The team surprisingly didn't have much of a weighty reaction to the previous night, save Taissa. Shauna expressed her regrets to Lottie while Misty and Crystal talked about how the experience wasn't that bad. It seems like the team is treading lightly around the subject — for now. Yellowjackets season 2 episode 3 instead went in a different direction, including more Lottie visions, some backstory on Coach Ben, and Misty and Walter's budding relationship.

Why Did Ben Keep Having Visions Of His Boyfriend?

He's Thinking Of What Could Have Been Now That His Situation Is So Dire

Coach Ben (Steven Krueger) looks worried in Yellowjackets

It's possible that the previous night's horror is forcing Ben to escape into his own head, where he has visions of his partner Paul and what could've been had he not gotten on the plane. It was revealed in Yellowjackets season 1 that Ben is closeted, but has a boyfriend back home in New Jersey — and Paul is finally introduced in Yellowjackets season 2. Ben stays mostly bedridden throughout the episode, as it's clear the display from the prior night has affected him deeply. While alone, he spends his time remembering key moments with his boyfriend.

One of the first things Ben remembers is when Paul asked him to move in, and he refused, stating that everything in his life would change. The final vision that Ben has is completely fictional, as he imagines what would've happened had he just moved in and never gotten on the plane.

In the vision, he says that life will never be truly "safe," and he just has to accept that. Ben only truly came to this realization after the girls' foray into cannibalism. He thought that by getting on the plane and continuing the facade, he was making the "safe" choice for his life.

Yellowjackets season 3 will not premiere until 2025.

Why Did Taissa See A Different Version Of Herself In The Mirror?

Sleepwalking Taissa Is Gaining More Control

Taissa (Tawny Cypress) looking away from the mirror with her reflection looking back in Yellowjackets.

Yellowjackets has made it transparent that regular Taissa and sleepwalking Taissa are two different entities in the same body, and that the sleepwalking Taissa alter ego is dangerous. In Yellowjackets season 2 episode 3, Taissa does her second mirror trick of the season when she looks into the mirror at the hospital, and her reflection acts of its own accord. This is the easiest way to denote that the two Taissas are finally communicating with each other, with, as Sammie puts it, "the bad one," gaining enough waking sentience to direct Taissa's next steps.

In the scene, Taissa's reflection mouths the words "go to her," which regular Taissa doesn't understand. Her reflection then puts her hands over her face like a mask. What her reflection is telling Taissa to do is go see Van, teasing the fact that adult Van finally appears in episode 4. This is only further supported when Taissa leaves the hospital in a hurry, taking her assistant's car. Taissa's unsettling mirror scene shows that her sleepwalking counterpart is starting to gain control in her waking life, something that she and Van must discuss in the 2021 timeline.

Where Are Misty & Walter Going On Their Road Trip?

They're On The Trail Of Natalie's Kidnappers

Christina Ricci as Misty and Elijah Wood as Walter looking confused in a forest in Yellowjackets.

Yellowjackets season 2, episode 3, finally introduced Elijah Wood's Walter properly after having his brief appearance in episode 2 — and he and Misty are taking a road trip. After Walter posed as an FBI agent and interviewed Randy on his boat, Misty realized that Natalie's kidnappers might have used a credit card at the vending machine in the motel.

Walter used his renowned hacking skills to determine that Lottie's acolytes did just that, and he was able to track them to a town called Cherry Corners, New York. He then sent Misty a text message, asking if she wanted to take a road trip.

Considering Walter got the address from the cult members' credit card, it appears that the sleuths are heading straight into Lottie's compound. What the two will do when they get there isn't shown until the next episode. Considering the fact that Misty keeps scrupulous notes on all of her fellow survivors, it's possible she already knew the location of Lottie's cult and now suspects her of kidnapping Natalie.

Yellowjackets season 2, episode 3's title, "Digestif" refers to an alcoholic drink served after a meal to aid digestion.

Why Did Lottie Draw The Symbol On Shauna's Baby Blanket Gift?

She Thinks The Symbol Is A Sign Of Protection

Yellowjackets season 2, episode 3, saw the team put on a makeshift baby shower for Shauna, during which Lottie gifted her a baby blanket with the mysterious symbol embroidered on it. As expected, the gift got mixed reactions from the team, with Natalie, in particular, being critical of the gesture. Lottie argued that the symbol is a sign of protection.

However, Natalie still remembers that the first time they found it was in the attic next to the dead hunter. While Natalie's interpretation of the symbol is probably correct, considering that Travis' wilderness line points to the Yellowjackets symbol's connection to death, the rest of the group supports Lottie's theory.

In season 2, Lottie's main goal has been to use her own rituals to protect the group. When Shauna expressed her regrets over eating Jackie, Lottie deemed the act necessary, as it could've saved both her and the baby from starvation. Lottie puts ashes in Travis and Natalie's hands before hunting trips for "protection" and gives Van a trinket for the same reason back in season 1. Lottie fancies herself the protector of the group, and in believing that the symbol is a protective force, she thinks she is providing that service for Shauna's unborn child by putting the sigil on the blanket.

Why Did The Birds Fall From The Sky In Yellowjackets Season 2?

It Could Be Another Example Of The Supernatural

Dead birds on the cabin in Yellowjackets season 2, episode 3.

Shauna's bizarre baby shower comes to an abrupt end when a massive flock of birds falls from the sky to their deaths on top of and around the cabin. The group gathers around outside to witness the strange event, with only two of the girls offering up some explanation.

One of them states to leave the birds alone, as they are probably diseased, while Misty suggests that the ground is full of iron, possibly throwing off their navigation. In the end, Lottie says that the team should gather them up as blessings, which is what the girls decide to do now that Lottie is their established antler queen.

The birds' inexplicable behavior is probably a warning. It's worth noting that the event occurred directly after Lottie had gifted Shauna with the baby blanket, after which Shauna got a nosebleed. While nosebleeds can happen as a result of hormone changes during pregnancy, a flock of birds falling from the sky is certainly not commonplace, and places a foreboding shadow over the entire event.

Yellowjackets really leans into its supernatural elements in season 2 episode 3, with all of Lottie's visions heating up and Taissa's sleepwalking alter ego taking physical form. The mass bird extinction is only one more example of this.

What Did Lottie's Bee Vision Really Mean?

The Wilderness Could Be Coming Back To Haunt The Survivors In The Present-Day Timeline

Lottie (Simone Kessell) looking at her dead bees in Yellowjackets

After Lottie saw Laura Lee in Yellowjackets season 2 episode 2, it wasn't predicted that she would have another vision quite so soon. However, at the end of the third episode, Lottie sees her precious beehives with dead bees scattered on top of the box. When she opens the hive box, she takes out one of the combs to see that it is drenched with blood. Lottie becomes emotional and is only taken out of her vision when one of her acolytes asks if she is joining the group for lunch. All of Lottie's visions are certainly mysterious, but the hive box filled with blood takes the cake.

While it's entirely possible that Lottie's mental health is coming apart, the bee vision could point to either bloodshed in the 2021 timeline or be seen as yet another manifestation of guilt for her actions in the 1996 timeline. Lottie certainly put into motion the bloody events in the wilderness, and with Travis proclaiming that the wilderness is coming back to haunt the group, the beehive vision could possibly represent something either from the past or something that's going to happen in the future. The true meaning of Lottie's vision in Yellowjackets isn't revealed until the end of season 2.
