With only a few months remaining until its return, Yellowjackets season 2 has cast Jason Ritter, the real-life husband of adult Shauna actor Melanie Lynskey, in an undisclosed role for the series. Yellowjackets season 2 is poised to reveal more about what happened when the girl high school soccer team was stranded in the woods, both through the teenage and adult storylines showcased in the series. Shauna appears as a central character in both timelines, with the adult version of herself currently dealing with the aftermath of murdering Adam, a man she was having an affair with. Shauna and her husband, Jeff, covered up the murder, alongside other surviving members of the Yellowjackets.

As Shauna's marriage now harbors a deadly secret, Variety reports that Ritter will be joining his real-life wife on the set of Yellowjackets season 2. Ritter's role has yet to be disclosed, however it appears to be a guest role, with Ritter joining the cast for a single episode. Ritter and Lynskey previously appeared together on the Hulu true crime drama series Candy, making this their second collaboration in recent years.

Ritter will be joining a multitude of new actors set to appear in Yellowjackets season 2. Elijah Wood will be joining the cast as Walter, a citizen detective part of the same online investigative group as Christina Ricci's Misty. Adult versions of Lottie and Van are also set to appear in season 2, portrayed by Simone Kessell and Lauren Ambrose respectively. The new cast members and the characters they are set to portray indicate that both Lottie and Van survive what transpired in the woods when the main cast were teenagers. Wood's character Walter also hints at a wider involvement from Misty's citizen detective group as the season progresses.

Yellowjackets season 2 will see the teenage soccer players forced to survive a desolate winter, with Lottie seemingly taking charge of the group moving forward. Lottie's presence will also be prevalent in the present day, as people sporting the mysterious symbol the girls encountered in the woods have taken an adult Natalie hostage following her investigation into Travis' death. With Lottie alive in the present, it appears audiences will be getting more answers as to what happened in the woods and how the girls resorted to cannibalism following Lottie's leadership.

Many other compelling mysteries also make up the backbone of Yellowjackets season 2, including Taissa's dirt-eating, tree-climbing alter ego that may have decapitated her family's dog. Misty may also still have to deal with the consequences of poisoning Jessica Roberts, a fake reporter hired by Taissa whose fate is unclear by the end of season 1. Ritter's addition to the cast only deepens the general mystery of Yellowjackets, as his lack of a character description makes it unclear where he will fit in the grand scheme of season 2. Young Shauna actor Sophie Nélisse has already teased a thrilling season 2, including some of the most intense violence Yellowjackets has ever seen. With Ritter rounding out the cast, Yellowjackets season 2 is shaping up to be an engaging, twisted, and shocking continuation of the hit drama series.
