With questions come myriad fan theories. Just like survival drama Lost before it, part of the fun of Yellowjackets is discussing it with fans and debating certain aspects of the story. Countless theories have been raised regarding the true nature of the show's disturbing events.

Misty Kills Ben

Many of the most shocking events of Yellowjackets season 1 were thanks to Misty. She is easily the most sinister of them all, and it's clear that she has never been very well — even before crash landing in the wilderness. One of the biggest questions of the show is the fate of poor Ben.

According to Plenty-Animator8824, Misty probably killed him. They posit two theories. Either "she will end up poisoning him after he rejects her sexual advances" or "Misty handicaps Coach Ben to the point that he is fully dependent on her," thus making him her first "patient" as an orderly.

Javi Is Killed By A Wolf

Fans still have some burning questions for Yellowjackets season 2, including Javi's fate. By the end of season 1, he is still not seen in the present timeline and his status on the island is not known. The last viewers saw of him, he had been run off by Shauna.

According to Plenty-Animator8824, "I feel in my gut that Javi gets killed by a wolf attack...I think Javi’s death will cause Travis to either 1. Grow closer to Nat or 2. Seek comfort in Shauna..." Wolves are definitely present in the area, so this fate is a very real possibility.

Misty Is A Serial Killer

Misty is certainly one of Yellowjackets' best characters, and she alone has generated tons of fascinating theories. Reddit user StephStreis believes that she is a serial killer — at least in the present timeline.

They make a ton of interesting points, like "It didn’t seem like the bed set up for that 'journalist' was new," and, "At work, she may also be slowly poisoning her patients to keep them sick to make them even more reliant on her, which is why the old lady was refusing to eat her food." Did Misty get a taste for death and power in the wilderness and is now unable to stop?

The Pit Girl Is Mari

Yellowjackets opens in spectacularly gruesome fashion. An unknown woman runs through the woods, supposedly fleeing from pursuing killers, before she falls into a pit of spikes. Her body is then bled and cooked in an act of ritual cannibalism. Viewers still don't know who this mystery woman is, but they certainly have theories.

Top_Marionberry1663 thinks it's Mari, writing, "I could see it being Mari, simply because she’s now bullying Misty (even though she’s the one who put the mushrooms in the stew) and Misty's smile after the ritual eating makes me think she is pleased with who is gone."

Prion Disease

The survivors often suffer from hallucinations. These have been explained away as either psychological trauma, or maybe even something supernatural, but it could also be Prion disease. That's the theory of Redditor MartiniSauce.

They write, "For anyone that doesn't know, prions are contagious, misfolded proteins and while it can be inherited, they're usually contracted by eating the nerve tissue of an infected animal. In animals, this is usually seen in cannibalism." Symptoms of the disease include "memory loss, hallucinations, personality changes, insomnia and impaired thinking. Sound like anyone?" Could the survivors have gotten infected from eating human meat?

Human Sacrifice

Redditor AshTronomy42 has an interesting theory, and that's that the survivors aren't actually resorting to cannibalism but fulfilling some type of ritualistic sacrifice.

As they write, the killing of the first woman "could just be another ‘red’ herring. This would explain the ritualistic elements of chasing the sacrifice through the forest in the opening of the pilot. Not to eat, but sacrificial blood to the land for providing sustenance. Like Lottie said: 'It wants blood'." Is the show veering into the supernatural with "it"?

Shauna's Baby

One of the biggest developments of season 1 is Shauna realizing that she is pregnant. Unfortunately, it's possible that this storyline goes down a very dark road — at least, according to Reddit user cool-name-pending.

In their words, "She's been dreaming that she's giving birth to food, and then eating it? This is foreshadowing 101. Whether they will be forced to kill and eat the baby (due to starvation), or the baby dies naturally and they eat it, that baby is getting consumed." This show could be going to some very dark places in a very short amount of time.

The Man With No Eyes

One of the leading questions going into season 2 is undoubtedly: "What in the heck is The Man with No Eyes?" According to Reddit user hurlmaggard, there could be a very grounded explanation.

According to them, "I think because [Taissa's] grandma was so terrified as she died, saying she saw him, that it traumatized her so bad that it makes her see him when she feels like she did in that moment." Could The Man be nothing more than Taissa's imagination?

The Cabin Man

A dusty corpse in Yellowjackets.

During the climactic death dream, Jackie sees a mysterious man inside the cabin. The identity of this man is completely unknown, but of course, Reddit users have their theories. According to one Redditor, it's the man who once owned the cabin in the woods. As they write, "It’s actor William Charles Vaughan. He is credited as 'hunter.' It’s cabin dude."

Not only could it be the owner of the cabin, but it might also be the man whose skeleton now resides in the attic. Is his spirit still haunting the cabin, claiming those who also die within its proximity?

A Mining Shaft

The true origins of "the symbol" remain unknown. What viewers do know is that the symbol was there before the survivors, as it can be seen etched into a tree near the crash site. According to boreleafclover, this could be a symbol for a nearby mine shaft.

As they explain, "The symbol is a map to a hidden mining shaft. The circle is a sun, the lines and triangles are overlapping mountains. The hook is the actual mining shaft...The corpse in the cabin could be the owner of the mine, who was very protective of it and made markers on where to find it due to its implied value of minerals or gold."
