Ben Schnetzer is now set to play Yorick Brown in FX's Y: The Last Man TV series following Barry Keoghan's exit. FX has been attempting to adapt Brian K. Vaughn's acclaimed DC Comic series since 2015, and the adaptation finally started to make progress in 2018. FX ordered the pilot and assembled a cast to bring the vision of showrunners Aida Croal (Luke Cage) and Micheal Green (American Gods) to life. However, the last year or so has seen many changes come to Y: The Last Man.

After the pilot was filmed and FX picked up the show with a series order, it was announced that Croal and Green were leaving the show behind due to creative differences. Eliza Clark (Animal Kingdom) has since taken over showrunner duties for Y: The Last Man. In the time since Clark joined the series, there hasn't been much movement on it. But, it was announced a few weeks ago that Barry Keoghan would no longer play Yorick Brown, the last cisgender male alive in the post-apocalyptic setting. As a result, FX needed to find a new leading man and fast.

According to Deadline, FX has cast Ben Schnetzer as the new Yorick Brown in Y: The Last Man. The 30-year-old actor previously appeared on TV shows like Happy Town and had a role in Oliver Stone's Snowden, with one of his more notable appearances being as Khadgar in the Warcraft movie adaptation. He will now join the FX series with only a few weeks to prepare as filming on the series, including a new pilot, will begin in April.

As long as no other sudden departures happen to Y: The Last Man, Schnetzer's casting should be the final piece of the puzzle to get the series moving forward. He joins a cast that includes Diane Lane as Senator Jennifer Brown, Imogen Poots as Hero Brown, Lashana Lynch as Agent 355, Juliana Canfield as Beth, Marin Ireland as Nora, Amber Tamblyn as Mariette Callows, and Timothy Hutton as President Callows. The new pilot is slated to be directed by Melina Matsoukas, who most recently made her feature film directing debut with Queen & Slim.

Now that a plan, cast, and crew are in place for Y: The Last Man, fans of the comic may finally be able to believe that the show is happening. With only ten episodes committed for the first season, it is possible that FX could still manage to have this highly anticipated series ready to debut sometime in 2020. That might still be a long shot, though, but those looking forward to Y: The Last Man should now be able to see the series in 2021 at the latest. Once production is underway, hopefully, FX will confirm their intended release window for it.
