The latest set image for FX's long-awaited Y: The Last Man confirms production has begun on episode 4. Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra's highly-acclaimed comic book series, which follows the last cisgender male on Earth after a cataclysmic event kills every mammal with a Y chromosome, has experienced a lot of ups and downs when it comes to being adapted in any form. A Y: The Last Man movie was discussed as far back as 2009, but nothing ever came of it. Fans were hopeful when FX announced a series was in development in 2015, but progress has been slow up until now.

The Y: The Last Man series (which was shortened to Y) has endured everything from cast changes (Barry Keoghan to Ben Schnetzer as the titular last man, Yorick) to switching showrunner. Currently, Eliza Clark is Y: The Last Man's showrunner and has been ever since 2019. Though the series aimed to begin production in the first half of 2020, the coronavirus pandemic forced the start to far later in the year. In short, Y: The Last Man has been on a bumpy road. Luckily, work is still underway on the series, and progress is definitely being made.

Clark has shared several photos from the Y: The Last Man set, and the latest reveals they have begun work on episode 4. Clark posed alongside episode 4 director Destiny Ekaragha, whose birthday happened to coincide with the first day of filming. Little about Y: The Last Man can be gleaned from Clark's photo, though it looks like they're shooting inside a store of some kind. You can see Clark's post down below.

Assuming IMDb's current episode count for Y: The Last Man is correct, the first season will have 10 episodes. This means there is still a lot of work ahead before the show can premiere through FX on Hulu. Odds are, Y: The Last Man won't premiere until the very end of the year at the earliest; it could also arrive sometime in early 2022. Fans have already waited so long to see the show that an extra year can't hurt, just as long as it finally makes its way onto their screens eventually.

Despite all the setbacks and false starts, Y: The Last Man is finally pressing forward. Filming on Y: The Last Man just resumed last month, Clark confirmed, and it looks like things have been able to continue with no additional issues. Should this pace hold, the first season can wrap within the coming months, leaving post-production to be completed after. Whether that luck holds remains to be seen, but Y: The Last Man is definitely on its fourth episode. Only six more to go!
