Warning: SPOILERS for X-Force #2.

In a surprise twist, Charles Xavier was shockingly assassinated in the first issue of X-Force #1 by a black ops team that infiltrated the mutant paradise of Krakoa. Xavier's death was initially a surprise, but the shock wore off upon the realization the X-Men have a resurrection machine and questions of whether his death even mattered in the grand scheme of things. In X-Force #2, the X-Men led by Magneto and Jean Grey try to get Xavier back.

Magneto is understandably saddened over his fallen friend, wishing he could have stopped the bullet that took Xavier's life. Against the clock of the rest of the world knowing about his death, Jean admits they have backups in place to bring him back. Meanwhile, Wolverine investigates the assassins who used an incredibly twisted strategy to get access to Krakoa.

Beast and Jean visit Cradle One, where a new Cerebro is growing in Krakoa. Charles backed up his intelligence in multiple cradles throughout the mutant paradise knowing full well the potential danger he was in.

The process of bringing a mutant back to life is a tricky one. The X-Men's resurrection machine requires five different mutants' abilities working in unison along with Xavier's Cerebro, which retains the backups and memories of those who have fallen. Without the key ingredient of Cerebro, is it even possible to bring back Xavier with his full memories in-tact? Setting up backups throughout the island was a proactive move, but it remains to be seen how they reactivate Xavier to his former self without him. It's established that only one Cerebro can be active on Krakoa at the same time. How will that impact their plans?

There is also the question of whether the Mutants of Krakoa can still bring back the fallen without Xavier controlling Cerebro. Bringing him back might be the key to keeping the resurrection machine going. Without it, the mutants are much more vulnerable.

Right now, there are more questions than answers when it comes to finding a solution. Bringing Xavier back to life won't be easy. It's going to require Jean and the X-Men to work quickly, as the longer Xavier is dead, the bigger chance the rest of the world finds out and tries to make a play for Krakoa. The clock is ticking.
