New fan art shows The Avengers' Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) facing off against X-Men's Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). The Avengers is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe; its explosive, action-packed movies are not only fan favorites, but have helped unite Earth's Mightiest Heroes. X-Men, on the other hand, has been returned to Marvel following the Fox/Disney deal. As a result, it will be interesting to see how Marvel plans to revamp everyone's favorite mutants.

Doctor Strange was introduced in the eponymous 2016 film. While Stephen Strange starts off as an arrogant neurosurgeon, he eventually transforms into a powerful sorcerer. Jackman's Wolverine, on the other hand, has long been a staple of the X-Men world. However, Jackman bowed out of the iconic role after the 2017 movie Logan. With the X-Men (eventually) slated to join the MCU, Marvel is reportedly looking to recast a newer, younger version of Wolverine.

Stunning fan art by Eren Gürocak shows Doctor Strange and Wolverine squaring off inside the New York Sanctum. Wolverine's adamantium claws are out and at the ready; Strange, on the other hand, seems ready to perform an incantation. You can check out Gürocak's incredible creation below:

Now that Jackman has stepped back from X-Men, it's unlikely that a showdown between his Wolverine and Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange will ever come to pass. Regardless, plenty of other amazing fights have taken place in the MCU. For instance, the airport fight in Captain America: Civil War between Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man's (Robert Downey Jr.) respective teams is one for the books. That being said, it's still fun to think about a Wolverine vs. Doctor Strange battle, especially since it's unclear who would come out on top.

Doctor Strange will remain an integral part of the MCU. In fact, he's set to star in 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where the sorcerer will start to untangle the secrets of the MCU multiverse. On the other hand, Wolverine's immediate cinematic future is a bit more uncertain. Yet considering Wolverine remains one of the X-Men's most popular characters, he'll almost certainly appear in the MCU at one point or another. To that end, it might be possible that Doctor Strange will encounter Wolverine sometime down the road. Even though Wolverine will likely be played by someone other than Jackman, it's still cool to imagine what an epic potential crossover between The Avengers and The X-Men would look like.
