In a new cosplay starring one of the X-Men's most iconic heroes, @hairsprayhippiecosplay brings Psylocke to life in a look that's stunning and comic-accurate. The talented cosplayer shows off Psylocke's classic costume in the ensemble as the psychic hero wields a powerful energy sword. For a character that's undergone significant changes, especially over the last couple of years, the cosplay showcases why so many readers connected with Psylocke from the getgo.
Psylocke has one of the more convoluted backstories and histories among Marvel's X-Men. Originally, Psylocke was Betsy Braddock, the sister of the hero Captain Britain. The hero had her mind-swapped with a Japanese ninja assassin named Kwannon, as the two minds became one. As Psylocke, she was able to create psychic blades while having Braddock's telepathic powers as well. Psylocke's powers have undergone numerous changes over the years, with the character being recently split back into two different beings. Betsy Braddock took up the mantle of Captain Britain, while Kwannon retained the role of Psylocke in the Marvel Universe. Both Captain Britain and Kwannon appear in the current X-Men titles by Marvel Comics, with each character having their own distinct forms. Still, their legacies and backstories remain extremely complicated. Psylocke's bathing suit-esque costume was also supposed to be temporary but ended up being her most iconic look.
On her Instagram account, cosplayer @hairsprayhippiecosplay showed her take on Psylocke. The look is a comic-accurate cosplay of Chris Claremont and Jim Lee's version of the hero, as the ninja bathing suit-like suit is brought to life. In addition, the cosplay features Psylocke's purple hair, her long boots, and arm guards, as well as a psionic sword that glows while in the hero's hand. The caption for the image says, "you underestimate my power," which is appropriate for a hero many of her opponents aren't ready to face and are often badly defeated by.
It's another fantastic comic book cosplay from @hairsprayhippiecosplay (Olivia Marie). She has a knack for bringing some of Marvel's most famous heroines to life, including her pitch-perfect take on Gwen Stacy from the Spider-Man universe.
Psylocke might have one of the most complicated legacies in comics - which is saying something given the X-Men have undergone more retcons than pretty much any other group of heroes. But, her bathing suit costume remains the hero's most iconic look, for better or worse. In this case, @hairsprayhippiecosplay did a fantastic job showcasing the X-Men hero's costume as the cosplay is tremendous.
