The world of the X-Men is about to be changed forever as part of Jonathan Hickman's massive twin-series event, to be told in the pages of House of X and Powers of X. And now, Marvel has officially revealed the new comics and reunited teams that will be spinning out of his event's finale. And a few reinvented characters, too.

Hickman and Marvel Editor-in-chief C. B. Cebulski announced the entire lineup during Marvel's Next Big Thing panel at San Diego Comic-Con. While neither offered any details on the coming event, or indeed any of the new teams or books for the fans in attendance, the cover art has been released along with official plot teases. Which means that X-Men fans everywhere can now feast their eyes on the new incarnations of the MARAUDERS, the NEW MUTANTS, FALLEN ANGELS, EXCALIBUR, and of course the core X-MEN series which will be written by Hickman himself.

While refusing to spoil or tease any of the House of X, Powers of X, or the new series spinning out of the massive change to the mutant status quo, Marvel repeated the claim that this new X-Men event will include the most important scene in Marvel history--adding that readers may not fully understand why that's the case until a later date. But Marvel's editors were sure to make it clear that while the books and their mutant community may very well end up fractured, or bonded more strongly than ever, the stories themselves are tied directly to Hickman's game-changing event. These new series will kick off the first phase of Jonathan Hickman’s massive multi-year plan for the X-Men, redefining everything the world knows about mutants and their place in the universe. X-Men Senior Editor Jordan D. White explains:

“House of X and Powers of X lay the groundwork for a whole new world of X-Men stories for years to come, and the Dawn of X books are the promise of that new world come to life. They are the start of the new era that will change how we think of the X-Men and the kinds of stories we tell with them. It all begins here.”

Check out the first looks at the new teams, new series, cover art, and early plot synopses for the coming line of X-Men books, dealing with the new world facing the mutants in Hickman's relaunch.

  • THE COST OF THE FUTURE ISN’T CHEAP. X-Force is the CIA of the mutant world—one half intelligence branch, one half special ops. Beast, Jean Grey and Sage on one side, Wolverine, Kid Omega and Domino on the other. In a perfect world, there would be no need for an X-Force. We’re not there… yet.

Excitement for the new books is inherently capped, since the readers don't know any of the context surrounding their formation, their missions, or the new nature of the larger mursnt world they'll take place within. That fact won't change until fans get to begin the story with both House of X #1 and Powers of X #1. And even then, it's unclear at which point in the 12-week run that these new series, teams, and villainous alliances will start to make sense. Indeed, all we now have to go on is the repeated phrase that Hickman's original pitch was an instant hit, and the nature of the two comics as explained in the official plot synopses below:

Since the release of Uncanny X-Men #1, there have been four seminal moments in the history of the X-Men. Giant-Sized X-Men. X-Men. Age of Apocalypse. New X-Men. Four iconic series that introduced a new era for Marvel’s mutants and revolutionized the X-Men. In HOUSE OF X, Charles Xavier reveals his master plan for mutantkind…one that will bring mutants out of the shadow of mankind and into the light once more.

Intertwining with HOUSE OF X, POWERS OF X reveals the secret past, present and future of mutantkind, changing the way you look at every X-Men story before and after. You do not want to miss the next seminal moment in the history of the X-Men!

Fans looking to get in on this new age of Marvel mutants can start by picking up House of X #1 on July 24th from your local comic book store or direct from Marvel Comics, with Powers of X #1 arriving one week later, July 31st.
