The demonic Sorcerer Supreme that has become a full-fledged member of the X-Men, Ilyana Rasputina aka Magik, trades her normally imposing and intimidating form for a deceptively adorable one in an all-new piece of fan art. Magik has a reputation of instilling fear in her enemies as she was granted with the mutant power of teleportation discs and learned the form of demon summoning and portal creation after studying such forms of magic in the realm of limbo. Using those powers, Ilyana quickly became the X-Men’s very own demonic Sorcerer Supreme and now she takes on a much less demonic form in all-new piece fan art.

Ilyana made her first appearance in Giant Size X-Men #1 but didn’t become Magik until the limited series Magik (Ilyana and Storm Limited Series) by Chris Claremont and John Buscema. In the four-part limited series, Ilyana was kidnapped and taken to limbo by the demon Belasco where she was continuously tormented by demons. During that time, Ilyana was able to learn summoning and upon her rescue, was able to use that skill for the rest of her career with the X-Men.

In a Reddit post by user csummerss with credit to the artist Mike Maihack, Magik is depicted without her usual edge of darkness, but with an air of lightheartedness instead. The artwork itself perfectly captures Magik in terms of comic accuracy, with her iconic outfit and power sword drawn exactly like how they so regularly appear in X-Men comics. Where the artist takes creative liberties is with the tone of the picture, making a normally harsh character appear as nothing short of adorable.

Even though Magik is depicted as a happy-go-lucky character in this piece of fan art, she certainly wasn’t that during one of her greatest victories in Marvel Comics, one which earned her the title of the X-Men’s Sorcerer Supreme long before that fact was declared in The Death of Doctor Strange Marvel Comics event. In Avengers vs X-Men, Magik defeated Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange when he and the rest of the Avengers were trying to capture Hope Summers for fear that she would become the new host for the Phoenix Force. Ilyana fought and defeated Strange and successfully opened a portal through which the X-Men made an escape from the Avengers, marking that day a victorious one not just for her personally but for the team she was fighting alongside.

It is hard to picture the Ilyana shown in the fan art as a ruthless fighter capable of besting the world’s greatest sorcerer, but that’s the beauty of this particular piece because that’s exactly who fans are looking at. Ilyana, while most definitely an intimidating warrior, is still someone who enjoys life and is overall a normal kid. Magik is so often depicted as being the dark and edgy demon sorcerer that this piece of fan art is refreshing as it shows the X-Men’s Sorcerer Supreme as being deceptively adorable.
