Warning: Minor SPOILERS for X-Men #3
In the strange introduction of an X-Men love triangle, the idea that Scott Summers' one true love may not be who it once was, or the new rule of Krakoa to "make more mutants," there is one relationship fans haven't gotten to see explored: that of Jean Grey and Emma Frost. Until now.
It had previously been announced that Jean and Emma would get their own Giant-Size X-Men to lead, putting aside past differences to rescue fellow mutant Storm. Thankfully readers won't need to wait that long, since the third issue of the main X-Men book finally allows these two formidable women to enter into a verbal fistfight. Proving -- as if there was ever any doubt -- that they have the potential to become the two most potent frenemies on the whole island of Krakoa. And just in time for them to help tackle the newest threat facing the mutant nation: the Savage Land.

The official preview from Marvel gives a tease of the X-Men's next mission to the Savage Land, now a far greater threat than it used to be since they, too, occupy a mysterious floating island in the middle of the ocean. The preview also offers the first glimpse of the new mutant leadership in action. The members of the Quiet Council, carefully chosen to debate and decide on mutantkind's next steps. And Cyclops, Captain Commander of mutant forces, identifying and responding to threats with carefully selected strike teams. Here's hoping the mission itself goes as smoothly. Readers may need to give their exchange a few passes to catch every piece of the verbal sparring (big feet, affairs, wealth). But if this is just the first glimpse of what writer Jonathan hickman and artist Leinil Francis Yu have in store for more Jean and Emma moments to come, then the full issue can't get here soon enough. And the same goes for Russell Dauterman's Giant-Size, too!
