Warning! Spoilers ahead for Inferno #4

In the final issue of Marvel Comics' Inferno, the X-Men event sees Emma Frost revealing what sets her abilities apart from those of Charles Xavier, mutantkind's other most powerful psychic. Having been kept out of the loop about Moria MacTaggert and her role in building the mutant island nation of Krakoa alongside Xavier and Magneto, Emma Frost isn't on the best terms with her fellow members of the ruling Quiet Council. As such, she ends up helping Mystique and Destiny, both of whom are looking to remove Moira from her position of power over mutantkind's fate. In doing so, Emma makes an important distinction between her own power and Xavier's.

In previous issues of Inferno, Moira was taken hostage by Mystique and Destiny, leading Xavier and Magneto into a trap where they came face to face with Nimrod and the Omega Sentinel, the A.I. masterminds behind the human organization seeking to bring down mutants known as Orchis. Now, Inferno #4 from writer Jonathan Hickman and artists Valerio Schiti & Stefano Caselli reveal how Mystique and Destiny knew where to find Moira who had previously been hidden from all mutants (aside from Xavier and Magneto).

Seen in flashback, it's revealed that Emma Frost agreed to help Mystique and Destiny find Moira for the sole reason that she had been kept in the dark about Moira's existence due to Magneto and Xavier's distrust and secrecy. However, when Mystique took it upon herself to have Destiny resurrected (something Moira said couldn't happen), Erik and Charles grew desperate and attempted to have Emma join them, an offer she ultimately refused in anger. Instead, Frost used her powers to find Moira, revealing what sets her own psychic abilities apart from Xavier's.

The fact that Frost's powers identify weaknesses and flaws first while Xavier sees strengths is quite the distinction. Likewise, it also fits perfectly with their personalities while setting them apart as unique mutants (despite having similar power sets). As such, Emma was able to discover the tracker that Magneto and Xavier placed in Moira's arm should they ever need to find her, leading Mystique and Destiny right to her. Furthermore, Frost also gave the two mutants the gun created by Forge, allowing them to remove her mutant powers after they baited Magneto and Xavier, trapping them with the Sentinels to keep them busy.

It certainly looks like Krakoa will never be the same now that the status quo has been shifted so drastically after Magneto and Xavier's secrets have been exposed to the rest of the Quiet Council by Inferno's end. In any case, the distinction made between Xavier and Emma Frost's powers is an important one in this X-Men issue, proving to fans that their abilities are far more than just copies of each other in the Marvel Universe.
