Throughout his career, writer Chris Claremont was responsible for some of the most iconic moments in X-Men continuity. However, one moment that doesn’t get as much attention as it deserves was the time Colossus drunkenly spilled a mug of beer on the Juggernaut. What follows is a slobber-knocker for the ages.

Uncanny X-men #183 begins with the fan-favorite mutant Colossus coming clean to then-girlfriend Kitty Pryde about an affair he had with an alien girl during the original Secret Wars event. After breaking her heart, a depressed Colossus returns to the mansion only to find Wolverine angrily waiting for him. Enraged by the way Colossus treated his very young now ex-girlfriend, Wolverine forces him to go to a bar so they can talk. Worried about what Wolverine’s true intentions are, Nightcrawler joins them to make sure things don’t get too heated. But even he isn't prepared to see what unfolds.

After arriving at the bar, Wolverine and Colossus argue over how he handled things with kitty. This is until Wolverine catches the scent of classic X-men villain Juggernaut dressed in street clothes and relaxing on the other side of the bar. Not wanting to start a fight, Wolverine attempt to leave with his friends without making a scene. Instead, Colossus drunkenly stumbles and spills his beer all over Juggernaut. In response, Juggernaut proceeds to throw Colossus through a doorway, with enough force to kill him if he had not morphed into his metal form.

Concerned, Nightcrawler attempt to step in, but is held back Wolverine, who’s actually excited to see what will happen. As the two begin to trade blows, much of the building around them gets destroyed while a crowd of people watches. At one point Juggernaut actually picks up the bar and smashes Colossus over the head with it. Not done, Colossus proceeds to tackle Juggernaut through a wall. However, this all comes to an end when Juggernaut collapses the whole building on top of Colossus, knocking him out. After the fight, Juggernaut sees Wolverine and Nightcrawler. But realizing they don’t want to fight, he leaves after paying for the damages. Once regaining consciousness, Colossus asked his teammates why they didn’t help, just for Wolverine to say that he basically deserved the beating for what he did to Kitty -- before leaving him in the wreckage of the building to think about what he did.

Aside from the fight, the issue is remembered for showing the X-Men taking on familial roles. Wolverine play father figure, effectively punishing Colossus for hurting Kitty so callously. Not to mention that this might be one of the most epic moments in which Juggernaut was a genuine threat, making this an extremely entertaining read. With all this in mind, one can’t help but consider this to be one of the greatest single issue stories in X-Men history.
