Jerry Maquire director Cameron Crowe wants to direct a Marvel movie based on the X-Men character Dazzler. Before the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the X-Men film franchise at 20th Century Fox built its own shared universe of characters that helped pave the way for other superhero films. Before Disney bought the rights to the X-Men, Dazzler appeared in a cameo in X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Starting with Phase 4, the MCU has started to tease the arrival of Mutants with characters such as Ms. Marvel, Professor X, and Namor. Characters who are often associated with being Mutants like El Águila and Mr. Immortal also made appearances on the TV series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, where the X-Men themselves were also name-dropped by the titular hero. In connection to the original X-Men film series, Deadpool 3, is set to have Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman returning the reprise their roles as Deadpool and Wolverine has been announced.

One filmmaker has already set his sights on one Mutant character. Cameron Crowe of Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous and Vanilla Sky fame spoke to Rolling Stone where he revealed that he has a strong interest in the X-Men character Dazzler, a Mutant singer who has the ability to take sound and convert it into light flashes, holograms, and lasers. Crowe also already has a star in mind for the lead role in singer-songwriter Dua Lipa. Being that Crowe is known for having an eclectic soundtrack in his films, it makes sense why he would be interested in adapting this particular character.

Throw me a Dazzler movie! Let’s do it, Doing a movie like that could be a blast, You can have character development and all that deep stuff and also have spectacle. You can do it. And it's heading there, clearly.

Attempts at a Dazzler movie have happened before. She was created by Tom DeFalco and John Romita Jr. after Marvel Comics was commissioned by Casablanca Records to create a multimedia character. An animated special was suggested, but this quickly turned into a live-action feature film with Bo Derek attached to star. The project fell apart when the producers refused to have Derek's husband direct. An adult animated series co-starring the character titled Tigra & Dazzler was in development for Hulu before the project was shelved. Given the multiple attempts already to bring Dazzler off the page into a major role, it could be something that comes out in the future.

Cameron Crowe's enthusiasm for a Dazzler film is commendable, but her obscurity is a heavy factor. While Marvel is known for taking some of their more obscure characters and turning them into household names, they meticulously find inventive ways to introduce them. A Dazzler solo film would be tricky, but an X-Men movie that featured Dazzler would make better sense from a marketing point of view. Marvel is still a long way off from introducing the famous team of Mutants, but there is a chance that the music-based hero will eventually make a grand debut in the MCU.
