Xiaomi is working on its next folding smartphone that's rumored to be called the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2. The device will be the successor to the first-gen Mi MIX Fold that debuted earlier this year. Leaks about the upcoming device have been trickling in for a while, and the latest one has now revealed much of its critical tech specs. The device is expected to launch next March and compete with Samsung's Z Fold 3 and OnePlus' upcoming folding phone.

Xiaomi's first-generation Mi MIX Fold was unveiled back in March with an 8-inch bezel-less AMOLED screen on the inside and a 6.52-inch 90Hz cover display. The device is powered by a Snapdragon 888 SoC and sports a triple-camera setup at the back, led by a 108-megapixel sensor. It has a 5,020mAh Li-Po battery with 67W fast-charging support.

The Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 is believed to launch next March, almost exactly a year after the original MIX Fold was announced in China. The device might be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC and could also ship with Xiaomi's in-house 'Surge C1' image signal processing chip. According to the Chinese tech blog IT Home, the device will feature a Samsung display with ultra-thin glass (UTG) technology. It is said to have the model number 22061218C and is expected to ship with a similar-sized screen as its predecessor. The device is also rumored to sport a 5,000mAh battery with support for fast charging.

Redesigned Hinge And Under-Display Camera?

Xiaomi is also said to be redesigning the hinge in the MIX Fold 2 for more durability, which suggests that the company is working on improving the quality of the folding mechanism in the new device. Reports also indicate that Xiaomi might include an under-screen camera in the MIX Fold 2, much like the standard Mi MIX 4 that was launched back in August. However, as with any leak, the rumors are yet to be verified by the company, so it's best to take these details with a pinch of salt.

Xiaomi has been on a roll in recent times, toppling Apple as the best-selling wearables vendor in the world. The company also launched a whole host of consumer electronics gadgets IoT devices in China and beyond, including a trio of fitness-tracking smartwatches under its Redmi brand. Xiaomi is also said to be working on a pair of smart glasses and an electric car, although neither is expected to be out right away. The company also recently announced its new 'High-Silicon Lithium' battery technology that it says will deliver 10 percent more capacity without increasing the size.
