Warning! Minor spoilers ahead for X-Force #19!

The X-Men's omega-level psychic is making his last stand in a new preview for the latest issue of X-Force. Quentin Quire is in his worst nightmare. He is facing corrupted versions of himself.

Quentin Quire is an Omega-level mutant with psychic abilities who goes by the codename Kid Omega. The past few issues of X-Force have dealt with the investigation of a psionic attack on a cruise ship. Quentin and his girlfriend, Phoebe Cuckoo, are trying to access the astral plane in Quentin's mind to locate the source of the attack and the mysterious versions of the X-Men that are cropping up.

A new preview from Marvel Comics for X-Force #19 shows Quentin in the astral plane facing the thing that scares him the most: himself. Written by Benjamin Percy with art by Garry Brown, the upcoming issue of X-Force appears to continue the investigation into what the X-Men are up against. Check it out here:

This preview shows more of the events occurring once Quentin goes to sleep to try to find the cruise ship attack culprit in the astral plane. In X-Force #18, Quentin had Phoebe create a psychic link to tether him, but this appears to be gone and it may partially be due to whoever is on the other end of his nightmare. X-Force #17 revealed that his worst nightmare is himself. He is afraid of the monster he could be because of how powerful he is and has the potential to be. He is one of very few known Omega-level mutants. If the variations of himself he sees were ever to become a reality, they would be major threats.

The most interesting thing in these previews is the bulked up version of Kid Omega. This Frankenstein-style behemoth is opposite of the image that Quentin has tried so hard to build for himself recently. These stitched abominations are everything he doesn't want to be. The main question that hopefully the upcoming issue will answer is whether these variations exist only in the astral plane or if someone is actually trying to duplicate Quentin in this manner. There is a high chance that because this is a mental foray into another state of consciousness, this is just an extrapolated version of his worst fears. It would definitely make sense for each X-Men member who is witnessing horrifying alters of themselves or their friends to be seeing their worst fears. Fear is already a natural predator on the psyche, so weaponizing it would be a very efficient way to attack the mutant community.

As already shown, making an attack look like it was done by the mutant community is an easy way to target them. Making them suspicious of each other or taking advantage of the insecurities of one of the most powerful mutants is a potentially very effective strategy. Quentin Quire already fears himself, so forcing him to face not only himself, but a manipulated version of himself under experimental control is even worse. The X-Men have a lot to deal with and this Omega-level hero will have to take a stand if he hopes to solve this mystery.
