Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, the latest massive JRPG available on the Nintendo Switch, earns that subtitle in spades. This remaster of the Wii classic features vastly improved visuals, as well as a number of Quality of Life tweaks that bolster its standing among all the other superlative RPGs out this year (and those classics clogging backlogs the world over). The original might not have received the attention it deserved when it first released ten years ago, but new players will surely find a lot to love in this epic sci-fi tale.

There is plenty of reason to return to the Xeno universe for series vets, too. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition features a brand new epilogue as well (just in case the dozens of hours necessary to complete the main game weren't enough). This extra chapter, called Future Connected, is a meaty addition and can take around 10 to 20 hours to complete. This guide will explain how to access the new chapter and continue Shulk's adventures.

How to Access the Epilogue in Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition

Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition Title Screen

It is highly recommended to play through the main game before playing the epilogue, but this extra chapter can be started at any time and is treated as a separate entity from the main game. To start playing Future Connected, simply boot up the game and go to the title screen. At the bottom of the title screen is an option for "Extra Story." This will take the player to a separate title screen for the Future Connected content. That's it--with a single button press, the epilogue can be begun.

While the epilogue is more of a post-script tying up loose ends for a few of the main characters than a direct continuation, it offers a whole new area for the player to explore and is a rich, interesting story in its own right. Since it is separate from the main game, character progression doesn't carry over from one to another. Instead, the player will begin Future Connected at level 60 and with their Arts already significantly invested in. In addition, there is also no New Game+ for Future Connected, unlike the main game.

The player does receive some perks in the main game after playing Future Connected, though. As soon as a save file is started in the epilogue, the player will get access to the epilogue-specific cosmetic outfits in the main game as well. The player can dip in for just a second, skip through all cut-scenes, and get some cool new outfits this way. Completing Future Connected will also add some bonuses to the main game, giving players even more reason to return to Shulk and co.'s vibrant world.
