Publisher 2K Games recently listed the beta version of its upcoming mobile XCOM game XCOM Legends, a turn-based RPG that involves taking back Earth after its surrender to alien invaders. The game joins six other 2K XCOM titles released over the course of the past decade, such as this past year's XCOM: Chimera Squad.
According to the Google Play Store listing, XCOM Legends place players on an Earth two decades after "humanity was lost" to alien invaders. The war is long over, but resistance fighters face extinction due to a new "untold, ancient threat." Players are therefore tasked with joining the effort against the extraterrestrial menace by assembling the game's most qualified fighters. Specific plot points will be gradually uncovered as players advance through Campaign Mode and more, including competitive PvP modes and daily challenges. Each battle is turn-based and individual squads call for the use of five fighters, all of whom are equipped with unique abilities that improve with the leveling up feature.
The game has been on fans' radars since last year, when Facebook advertisements for XCOM Legends circulated the Internet. But the advertisements led to a Google Store link that didn't exist, leading fans to believe that the game might be fake. 2K confirmed with Eurogamer after its beta release that the game is legitimate, and said, "we are constantly exploring and testing new experiences to offer our fans the best entertainment and value." Players are already publicly sharing their experiences playing the XCOM Legends beta, such as YouTube channel Android IOS Cabogame, who uploaded a video of the gameplay. XCOM Legends is currently listed as "in development" and potentially unstable, so players will likely experience frequent changes and updates before its official release. But the game will certainly satisfy those eagerly waiting for future installments of the XCOM series, such as a follow-up to XCOM 2.
XCOM Legends does not yet have an official release date, but its beta version is currently available for Android.
