Xbox has just responded to the recent reveal of the new PlayStation 5 DualSense controller with an animated gif of its own Series X controller in a subtle dig at the former’s design. The long-awaited PS5 controller was just unveiled yesterday, leaving many surprised at what a departure it is in comparison to PlayStation controllers of the past.

Ever since the PlayStation 5’s official release window was announced last October, fans have been speculating about how both the new console and its controller would look. Many technical tidbits, fan-made mock-ups, and one rather dull reveal presentation later, and gamers were finally given their first look at the new PS5 DualSense Controller on Tuesday. The new white-and-black design caught several fans off-guard, with some comparing it to the Xbox Series X’s more orthodox controller and others redesigning the PS5 controller in an all-black finish much like the PlayStation 4’s DualShock 4.

Either in response to these comparisons between the two controllers or just to get a chuckle from fans, Xbox’s official Twitter account posted a brief gif of the sleek, all-black Series X Controller shortly after the DualSense’s unveiling on Tuesday. Responses to the post consisted of players comparing the two controllers with varying degrees of civility, as well as praising the Series X Controller’s design overall. Check out the tweet below:

This is just the latest chapter of the long-standing rivalry between the two next-gen consoles, which are both set to hit stores around the same Holiday 2020 period. The aforementioned PlayStation 5 presentation last month sparked further discussion, as the PS5’s technical specifications have been noted to be weaker (yet faster) than the Series X, in addition to the presentation itself being compared to the Series X’s much more exciting, visual reveal at The Game Awards last December.

Nonetheless, the post on Xbox’s Twitter page is more or less an amusing jab at the company’s competition, and although not all of the responses to it are cordial, a number of them are entertaining in their own right. With two major consoles on the horizon for later this year, this is certainly an exciting time for video game fans, regardless if they prefer the single-color look of the Xbox Series X controller or the two-toned approach of the PlayStation 5 DualSense – but only time will tell which one wins over players when the two consoles are unleashed to the world this Holiday Season.
