A white variant for the Xbox Series X controller appeared in an image online only to be mysteriously removed shortly after it surfaced. A reason for the post's removal has not been given, but it could be because Xbox isn't quite ready to have that product revealed. According to an interview with the poster, the white controller could be evidence of a second Xbox Series X model.

It was rumored at the end of 2019 that Xbox was planning to release a cheaper and less powerful version of the Xbox Series X. The supposed console goes by the code-name Lockhart, and is said to be a digital-only version of the Xbox Series X. This would mirror Sony's business model for the PlayStation 5 as it is offering gamers two different versions (digital-only and hybrid) of its next-gen console. Digital-only meaning players would not have the option to play physical copies of games on that system.

According to The Verge, Redditor Wolfy_Wizzardo posted a picture of the alleged controller to the r/Xbox subreddit. The post was removed within a day of it being posted, and Wolfy_Wizzardo deleted their Reddit account. In an interview with The Verge, Wizzardo stated that he had snapped the photo of the controller at a party held by the child of an Xbox employee. Wizzardo also claimed that he had played games on a new console that was "more squarish" than the Series X, and it was white, he claims.

While Microsoft has refused to comment on the image posted by Wizzardo, the urgency of the post's removal could serve as proof that the image is of a legitimate next-gen controller. This theory could also be backed by the severe action of Wizzardo deleting his account entirely. Not to mention that the controller's button layout and overall design is an exact match to the Xbox Series X controller Xbox has shown already.

While the post has been removed, the comments from the post still remain, and the majority of commenters seem to believe the image is real. However, three months ago Reddit user jiveduder posted concept artwork for the supposed second Xbox Series X console. Jiveduder's concept artwork is identical to how Wizzardo described the alleged console at the party he attended. It could be possible that the image was fake and Wizzardo's story is based on the concept art posted online. It's also not too farfetched to assume that Xbox will be producing a white version of the Xbox Series X as they have done similar releases in the past, but this might not have been a real picture of one.
