A new picture has revealed a closer look at the Xbox Series S Halo Master Chief Easter Egg hidden away inside the console, as the hero's iconic helmet is emblazoned on the console's power supply. Xbox Series X|S are out today, and fans are finally getting their hands on Microsoft's next-gen console for the first time, which means plenty of revelations are likely in store for consumers as the week progresses.

It's not surprising to see Microsoft give a nod to Master Chief on its actual next-gen console hardware - the super solider has become arguably the most iconic Xbox character of all time, and has featured into some of the console family's best exclusive titles to date. It also makes sense from a marketing standpoint, since Master Chief was going to figure heavily into Xbox Series X|S launch plans prior to a Halo Infinite delay that saw the console's flagship exclusive pushed as far back as sometime in 2021. The loss of such a heavy-hitting launch title is surely one that Microsoft will feel during the holiday season, but so far, signs point to a healthy early adoption phase for Xbox Series X|S and a lot of optimism for the console's excellent design moving forward.

Still, the Halo Master Chief Easter Egg is a great addition to the Xbox Series S design, and one that's going to be appreciated by long-time Xbox players in particular. A Reddit post from user Scorthyn shared yesterday revealed an image of the Xbox Series S power supply unit, and a small logo of Master Chief's helmet can be found in the lower left corner of the hardware. It's a clean looking logo, too, for something that probably won't even be seen by the majority of Xbox Series S owners - a testament to how much care went into each element of the next-gen console's design.

The Xbox Series S Halo Master Chief Easter Egg follows in the footsteps of the one present in Xbox One X consoles, which featured Master Chief riding a scorpion engraved on the console's circuit board. This time, the Halo Master Chief Xbox Easter Egg is significantly easier to find - and less likely to result in the damaging of the piece of tech its emblazoned on - so it's a nice adjustment from Microsoft.

Even with all the positives that such a small, nice gesture can bring, however, it's bittersweet for fans who want Xbox Series X games to be great from the beginning of the console's life cycle. Halo Infinite was supposed to be the title that propelled the next-gen device through November and the holiday season, and its lengthy delay came as a major blow to fans. Even though the product that was put on display during a Halo Infinite showcase looked so bad it caused a much-needed delay - and resulted in the birth of Craig the Brute memes - it's hard not to see a reminder of what could have been in the Xbox Series S Halo Master Chief Easter Egg.
