Xbox Will Fire Someone Further Than Ever Out of a Cannon For Sea of Thieves

Xbox will be launching someone out of a cannon in an attempt to break a world record for their new video game Sea of Thieves. The action-adventure game is developed by Rare, best known for Donkey Kong Country and GoldenEye 007, and published by Microsoft Studios for Microsoft Windows and Xbox One set for release on March 20, 2018.

Sea of Thieves is a cooperative multiplayer, cartoon-styled game first announced in 2014 played from a first-person perspective as the group of players travel and explore an open world on a pirate ship. Each player assumes different roles such as steering, hoisting sails, navigation, firing cannons and other tasks while embarking on quests, collecting loot and engaging in combat with other players.

As part of game's highly anticipated release, Xbox is celebrating by partnering with David “The Bullet” Smith to try to break a Guinness World Records title as The Great Sea of Thieves Human Cannonball. Tomorrow, March 13 at 1 p.m. ET, Smith will attempt to break the world record for Greatest Distance Traveled as a Human Cannonball using the Xbox Pirate Blaster, a 34-foot-long cannon that will accelerate him from 0 to about 60 mph in one-fifth of a second for 200 feet before a 12g impact stop on the landing airbag. The event will be live-streamed from the Mixer Xbox Channel tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m. from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

Smith has been a human cannonball for over 11 years and has preformed more than 5,000 cannon shots around the world. He is currently the highest flying human cannonball in the world, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Smith break the record for Sea of Thieves. Take a look on Xbox One for more details and to learn about the world's first Pirate Blaster.

Xbox has also announced on their inaugural episode of Inside Xbox "The Quest for the Golden Bananas," a Sea of Thieves global digital treasure hunt to find the world’s first real golden bananas, which are valued at $110,000. The treasure hunt will consist of teams solving a total of total of 15 riddles throughout the competition. The three-day competition starts on March 19 at 3:00 a.m. ET.
