It's time for another Free Play Days on Xbox One, so Gold subscribers can check out Overwatch, F1 2020, and Wreckfest at no additional cost. That's two racing games and one hero shooter where matches can sometimes feel like a race against the clock. F1 2020 is a simulation of open-wheel racing, the NASCAR of the rest of the world.
Wreckfest is an older game, releasing first on PC in 2018 before making its console debut in 2019. Based around the thrill of destruction derbies. Out of all three games in the trio, Blizzard's Overwatch needs no introduction. The game that popularized hero shooters (and arguably loot boxes as well), Overwatch still has a thriving community years after its initial release, so anyone trying the game for the first time should have plenty of fair competition.
Starting now and going until Sunday, August 23, all three of the games are free for subscribers of Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. As usual, progress in the games and any achievements that players unlock will carry over into the full versions of the game should they choose to purchase them after the demo. Xbox has also set up a discount on all three games to temp players further. Overwatch can be secured for 67% off ($19.80) and F1 2020 and Wreckfest are 30% off each. There are similar discounts on the Deluxe Editions of both games as well.
If players do end up booting Overwatch, they'll find more than just the normal assortment of maps and modes. This week is the last week of the shooter's Summer Games event, which means new skins to acquire and the chance to play as much Lucioball as the heart desires. Lucio's sport of choice is a soccer mode that mimics the popular Rocket League, only with sound-powered hand cannons instead of Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars. If player rack up nine wins in total over the weekend, they can receive an exclusive Summer Games skin and carry it over into a full purchase of the base game or the upcoming sequel Overwatch 2.
Getting a few rounds in of Overwatch on a brand new account can be a great way to spend the weekend. Of course, if players got bored with these games, they can also activate the three games currently available on Xbox Live Games with Gold. Players can grab both Portal Knights and Override: Mech City Brawl on Xbox One as well as a free digital copy of the Original Xbox's rendition of Red Faction 2. It's a light month in terms of big names, but all three titles have niche appeal that's worth looking into for that same sweet low price of zero dollars.
Overwatch is available now for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
