There's a brand new The Mandalorian Xbox controller based on Disney's popular Star Wars property, with the accessory featuring a striking design that makes it look as if it has been made of beskar steel. While the controller is an Xbox One version, it will work with the Xbox Series X/S consoles. This is thanks to the backward compatibility options in the next-gen systems, which will support all Xbox One accessories that were released for the console.

In other Xbox-related accessory news, Microsoft also recently unveiled that the Xbox Series X/S both feature a hidden IR receiver. According to Xbox's Major Nelson, the receiver is contained within the bind button on the outside of the systems. This should allow players to use older accessories and media remotes, further cementing the backward compatibility support in the next-gen consoles.

Microsoft revealed the brand new Mandalorian Xbox controller on Twitter, and the striking design of the controller makes it look as if it has been forged of beskar steel while also coming equipped with a charging stand featuring a Mandalorian sigil. Like the standard Elite controller, it features textured grips and custom button mapping. Unfortunately, this is an Xbox One controller so doesn't come with any of the improvements made with the Xbox Series X pad. It also costs a steep $169.99 USD and will release on December 31, two months after the debut of the new season of The Mandalorian, so fans will need to wait a while before they're able to deploy this particular aesthetic upgrade.

Unlike the Xbox One versions, the new Xbox Series X/S controllers have taken direct inspiration from Microsoft's Elite gamepads. The d-pad has been completely redesigned, while there are textured grips on the triggers, bumpers, and the back case. The wireless controller will also feature a share button to allow users to quickly capture screenshots or game clips. There are also three design choices for players to choose from. These include a black and white color scheme for each of the two next-gen systems along with a shock blue two-tone design that will be available to buy separately from November 10.

While the new controller certainly looks impressive, it might not be such an appealing purchase for most players. After all, it costs almost three times what a standard Xbox One controller does and features none of the improvements made with the Xbox Series X/S versions. The fact that it is also set to release more than two months after the show starts streaming on Disney+ will make it less attractive. but there's sure to be some Xbox players who love The Mandalorian Xbox controller and need this accessory in their lives.
