A recent leak suggests that Microsoft is about to add a new Xbox Game Pass subscription tier that could let families share a single account. Xbox’s monthly gaming subscription service gives members access to a large library of titles for a small fee, with new games and bonus services being added regularly. Xbox Game Pass has grown into a lucrative asset for Microsoft’s gaming division over the past few years, so much so that competitor Sony revamped its own PlayStation Plus subscription service to compete with Game Pass with new subscription tiers and access to classic PlayStation titles that can’t be played on current PS4 and PS5 hardware.Meanwhile, one area that Xbox Game Pass subscribers have been asking for is the ability to link multiple Xbox consoles or PCs to a single Game Pass account. Currently, Xbox Game Pass accounts can only be shared with one other console, and this requires the owner to set the second console as their “home” Xbox - something that could be quite a cumbersome process for players who own multiple Xbox systems. However, Xbox has reportedly started testing a new Xbox Game Pass Family Plan that would let up to five systems share the same Game Pass account in exchange for a slightly higher subscription fee. A Twitter account by the handle of Aggiornamenti Lumia shared a promotional logo for something called “Xbox Game Pass Family & Friends,” which could be the official name of the aforementioned Family Plan. Nothing else about what “Xbox Game Pass Family & Friends” is has been revealed aside from this logo (such as how much more it will cost in comparison to a standard Xbox Game Pass subscription), but it would stand to reason that an official announcement for this supposed new Xbox Game Pass subscription tier could happen soon following this leak.

Xbox Game Pass Family Plan Could Be Coming Soon

In the meantime, Xbox has been looking to expand its reach beyond the confines of Xbox-branded hardware and PCs, and Game Pass has been a key component of this strategy. Last summer, Game Pass started using Xbox Cloud Gaming to stream Game Pass titles like Fortnite onto Android and iOS-compatible mobile devices, and the Steam Deck can run Xbox Game Pass through Microsoft Edge. Meanwhile, Xbox Game Pass itself continues to grow with such new additions as several classic Elder Scrolls spin-offs and even 2019’s Death Stranding - something that few gamers predicted given how Hideo Kojima’s thought-provoking action title was initially published by rival Sony for the PlayStation 4 before branching out onto PC the following year.

Enjoying these games with friends and family might be easier than ever before if Xbox Game Pass is indeed launching a new “Family Plan” subscription tier - with this latest logo leak making it all the more likely that this plan will be officially announced soon. So far nothing official has been stated by Xbox regarding this addition to Xbox Game Pass, so members will have to stay tuned for official developments as they unfold.
