After a relatively quiet launch, Aliens: Fireteam Elite is coming to Xbox Game Pass for Xbox and Windows 10 players!. The co-op action game launched in August, but seemingly failed to retain its audience. Although it got relatively decent reviews and topped the charts in the UK, Aliens: Fireteam Elite was thought to be dead just two months after launch due to the lack of players on Steam. In October, the game had roughly 500 - 800 active players and wasn't able to compete against Back 4 Blood, another horror-based co-op game.

Ahead of its second season of post-launch content, developer Cold Iron Studios has announced that Aliens: Fireteam Elite will be added to Xbox Game Pass on December 14. In an Xbox Wire post, the developer noted that this will also add cross-play between Xbox and Windows players who play the game through the Microsoft Store. This is one of the features that many had hoped to see in the game at launch and may have been one of the reasons why it didn't retain an active player base.

When it was released, Aliens: Fireteam Elite had cross-gen play, allowing players to play with each other if they were in the same console family, but no cross-play. Sadly, Xbox and PC players won't be able to play with PlayStation players, so there are still restrictions, but it's an improvement. The Xbox Game Pass launch will coincide with the start of the game's second season of post-launch content which will add new weapons, modes, and other additional content. Whether or not all of this will give the game a second life remains to be seen, but it should give it a brief boost at the bare minimum.
