Another month brings with it another batch of free games across consoles, with the confirmed offering through Xbox Games With Gold for March 2019 bringing a few heavy-hitters for fans. Xbox owners paying monthly fees for online access have long been receiving freebies for continuing their subscription to Xbox Live, and some spectacular titles have arrived through this promotional service as a result.

Last month, Xbox Games With Gold's February 2019 lineup featured decent titles like Super Bomberman R and Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon. While those were satisfactory, however, the selection didn't really compete with January 2019's Games With Gold which featured the brilliant Celeste as a freebie. Not content on having so-so month, Microsoft has bounced back with a heavy-hitting lineup of free games arriving in March 2019.

Taking to Xbox Wire, Microsoft confirmed the slew of titles arriving as part of Xbox Games With Gold in March 2019. Without any further ado, the complete list can be found below:

  • Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion: Available March 1 to 31 on Xbox One
  • Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2: Available March 16 to April 15 on Xbox One
  • Star Wars Republic Commando: Available March 1 to 15 on Xbox One and Xbox 360
  • Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance: Available March 16 to 31 on Xbox One and Xbox 360

First up, Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion should make for a fun romp for those that admire the Cartoon Network animated show. The premise is that the Land of Ooo has been submerged underwater for some reason, so it falls on Jake the dog and Finn the human to save the day. More importantly, Xbox One users will also be gifted Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, which is a compelling third-person, team-based competitive shooter that takes several familiar characters from the Plants vs Zombies tower defence game. It's a surprisingly fun and competitive shooter that is sure to surprise gamers.

Not stopping there, Microsoft is also diving into its backward compatible library to deliver Star Wars: Republic Commando from the original Xbox. This is one of the more memorable spin-offs for the Star Wars IP and it's sure to deliver fans to a galaxy far, far away with its engaging approach to the frontlines of the Clone Wars. Last, but not least, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance from the Xbox 360 era is a hack-and-slash and action-filled take on the iconic Metal Gear series.

It's especially odd that the latter two games are present through Xbox Games With Gold for March since both Star Wars and Konami had titles featuring in February's offerings - Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and Super Bomberman R (which also features Metal Gear characters), respectively. Perhaps this is just where the chips fell following negotiations to release the titles, but it's a fun thing to point out nonetheless.
