Xbox Series X/S exclusive The Medium has received an age rating for a PlayStation 5 version of the game. The Xbox Series X/S had no exclusives at launch, as Halo Infinite was delayed to 2021. However, the one game that Microsoft had to show off the power of the new Xbox systems was The Medium, which was developed by Bloober Team.
The Medium is a psychological horror game that takes place across two worlds at once. The main character is a medium named Marianne, who has the ability to enter the spirit world and engage with its nightmarish inhabitants. The player could control both the physical and spiritual versions of Marianne at once in The Medium, with the player witnessing each realm on different sides of the screen. This is only possible thanks to the internal SSD used by the Xbox Series X/S, as well as modern PCs with a similar level of tech. The fact that The Medium launched on Game Pass meant that new Xbox Series X/S owners could play it for a low subscription fee, making it even more enticing as a game that could show off the hardware. It's possible that the Xbox exclusive will soon be making the jump to Sony's new system.
According to a new posting on the official ESRB website (as spotted by Gematsu), a version of The Medium has been rated for the PlayStation 5. The PlayStation 5 has an internal SSD of its own, which means that it could also run The Medium. The Medium has maintained its Mature rating, due to the blood and violence present in the game.
It's possible that Microsoft was only able to land a six-month exclusivity deal for The Medium, which would come to an end in July. This would allow the game to come to the PS5, but it would have to skip the PS4, as the system wouldn't be capable of running The Medium. The Medium was one of the best showcases of what the Xbox Series X/S are capable of at launch, so Microsoft might not have cared about keeping the game exclusive for too long. There's no word on when The Medium will be leaving Game Pass.
Bloober Team has yet to make any official announcements regarding a PS5 version of The Medium, but E3 2021 is just around the corner. News of a port is something that could be revealed during the show. For now, though, PlayStation fans will have to keep their eyes out if they want to travel to the spirit world.
