Wolverine's healing powers can actually be transferred to other people - in a quite bizarre way. Wolverine has long been one of the most popular and celebrated of the X-Men, even before Hugh Jackman was cast to play the role in onscreen. When he was originally introduced, his healing factor was formidable but relatively low-level. Over the years, it has increased dramatically in scope. It's even led to debate over whether it is possible for Wolverine to truly be killed.

This healing factor has given Wolverine a somewhat unique fighting style. Because he can shrug off almost anything, he tends to disregard all those decades of combat training, and simply dive into a melee with claws gleaming in the light. He doesn't seem to mind taking the hits, and that aggressive attitude - with no interest in his own self-defense - makes him an especially lethal warrior. But Marvel has revealed there is another surprising aspect of his power: it can actually be transferred by blood transfusion.

According to the recently-published X of Swords Handbook, in one timeline, a blood transfusion from Wolverine granted the reincarnating mutant Moira MacTaggert his extended lifespan. This was apparently possible because both Wolverine and Moira share a rare (fictional) blood type, E. Given Moira was shown as not having aged over the course of millennia, it's reasonable to assume she gained his healing factor wholesale. This makes Wolverine quite a unique mutant, one of precious few who can grant their powers to others.

X-Men Apocalypse Kisses Moira

It's not the first hint fans have seen that Wolverine's blood has special properties. Benjamin Percy's current Wolverine run has revealed Wolverine's blood is a vampiric delicacy, and consuming it grants vampires super-powers beyond their normal capacities. It actually grants vampires the ability to walk in daylight, supporting the idea Logan's blood has a transformative effect on anyone else's biology.

Marvel has long been attracted to the idea of blood transfusions as a way to transfer superhuman powers; She-Hulk's origin story tells how she was affected by a blood transfusion from her cousin Bruce Banner, aka the Hulk. But Wolverine's blood appears to be the most potent of them all. It remains to be seen whether his blood can be transfused into someone with a different blood type; E doesn't exist in the real world, but it is possible it is unique to a handful of mutants, and is actually part of their mutation. If so, it will be interesting to see if Moira's blood, too, has unusual properties.
