The longtime X-Men villain Spiral, assistant to Mojo the terrible tyrant of Mojoverse, is best known for her iconic six arms, brutal weaponry, and samurai-inspired fur-lined armor, was recently brought into reality by a cosplay from McHeretic.Spiral, otherwise known as Ricochet Rita, is a character with an incredibly complicated origin and history, connected to the Mojoverse, the X-Men member Longshot, and the creation of the classic mutant Psylocke. While Spiral has, at times, been able to break free of Mojo's horrific control over her, becoming an anti-hero or straight up hero from time to time, she is most known as the psychopathic body modifier and torture artist of the villain Mojo. During Spiral's imprisonment and brainwashing Marvel's most disgusting villain had her trained in the mystical arts. This made Spiral a powerful sorceress who was able to teleport, resist possession, and know when anyone in the universe is talking about here. She was also trained in weaponry and hand-to-hand combatant in which she gained total control over her six limbs. After undergoing these intense body modifications at Mojo's hands, Mojo also decided that he would train her in body modification. She then became the leader of Mojo's "Body Shop," where she altered the physiology of major villains like Lady Deathstrike.Related: Cable Cosplay Embraces The '90s Insanity X-Men Fans LovedOriginally the characters of Rita Wayword, a famous stunt actor known as "Ricochet Rita," and the villain Spiral were entirely separate beings, until a retcon revealed that they were in fact one and the same. Rita was captured and tortured by Mojo, he broke her sanity and turned her into the mysterious and powerful Spiral. In fact, in one of the X-Men's most tragic origin stories, Mojo actually forced Spiral to go back in time and set in motion the events that caused Rita to go to Mojoworld with Longshot and get captured, meaning Spiral is partly responsible for her own descent into madness and brainwashing. Spiral, in all her terror and majesty, has been stunningly brought to life by @McHeretic, a talented cosplayer who showed off her Spiral costume at this year's NYCC. Photographed by both @GymnasticPen, and @thegoddamnbatmanuel, Abigail's cosplay of Spiral captures the full insanity of the complicated villain's classic outfit, and utilizes a brilliant design for her six arms.

Spiral's 'Body Shop' Heads to New York Comic Con

McHeretic's epic cosplay of Spiral really does capitalize on the insanity of her many-armed look, which is a key part of the character's infamy as it makes her stand apart in any comic or game she's a part of. Spiral often dances with all of her limbs, and is known to exclaim, "I am the time dancer of death," to her enemies who oppose her, an action that is both terrifying and absolutely hilarious. It would have been amazing to see McHeretic's Spiral cosplay alongside a cosplay of Rogue and/or Gambit, who she helped rescue from Mojo in their Mr. and Mrs. X series, or alongside Storm whose X-Force team she joined in 2013's Uncanny X-Force. Spiral is a fascinating and complex character, who abuse and torture at the hands of Mojo don't absolve her of her wrongs but certainly reframe some of her past actions, and her iconic look is perfect for an epic cosplay just like McHeretic's.

The legendary villain, and sometimes hero, Spiral is a true icon of X-Men lore, and while the terrible and disturbing Mojo of Mojoverse seems to continually pull the broken Rita Wayword back into his orbit, it's awesome to see the majesty that is Spiral celebrated in an amazing cosplay.
