While Gambit and Storm may not be the first two X-Men who fans would put together as a couple, they actually have a great deal in common - including, it turns out, their powers' ability to merge together in their mutant daughter.

An antihero thief eventually won over to the side of good by the X-Men, Gambit is capable of charging non-biological material with incredible amounts of kinetic force, which explodes outward at his command. Gambit tends to make the most of this by carrying packs of playing cards - projectiles which can be easily charged and thrown in quickfire style. Gambit's choice of weapon has made him an iconic hero, but compared to Storm, his powers are C-list at best. A living weather goddess, Storm has psionic control over the atmosphere and all weather conditions, from summoning a tornado to crushing her enemies with pure air pressure.

In 2000's Millennial Visions, fans meet their daughter, the mutant warrior Medea. Named for a mythological trickster sorceress, Medea continues both her parents' legacies, and fights using rapid-fire chain lightning that combines her mother's elemental mastery with Gambit's immense skill and impeccable aim. Medea is introduced in Alan Evans, Rob Nikolakakis, and Buddy Scalera's 'The Offspring,' which describes the next generation of mutants heroes - including an older Kitty Pryde and Nightcrawler's fiery son Salamander - battling the Morlocks in the year 2035. Medea is clearly the group's long-range ringer, able to electrify their enemies with devastating bolts that leap from one person to the next.

While even this anthology entry calls Storm and Gambit's romance "surprising," the two actually experienced incredibly similar childhoods, in which they were trained as expert thieves while scraping by after the loss of their parents. While both now work towards justice and equality, they're each instinctive loners who like to fight their own battles and are more than willing to break the rules when they disagree with them.

While it's hard to imagine Gambit adjusting to life with a religious figure, Storm has never been happier than when she was a street vigilante alongside her friend Yukio, suggesting this lifestyle could see her and Gambit become an amazing team. In the iconic Uncanny X-Men Annual #10, she is tempted by a cosmic artifact which promises to allow her to be, "a thief again - to dance always on the edge of oblivion, with none to care for but ourselves, living from moment to moment, enjoying each to the fullest," resisting only because of her duty to the X-Men. While Storm has been quick to distrust Gambit in the past - and with good reason - there's an obvious path to happiness for the two as perhaps the greatest thieves in the world.

Several ideas from Millennial Visions - from entire realities to the concept of secondary mutations - have made it into Marvel's mainstream, meaning it's likely fans will eventually see Medea again sooner or later, and hopefully get to witness her unleash her A-list power combo. However, just as fascinating would be seeing the Gambit/Storm romance that took two of X-Men's most committed loners and brought them together as partners.
