Actor James Marsden is open to his X-Men character joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marsden had been acting since the early '90s, but one of his biggest roles came in 2000 when he was hired to play Scott Summers in Bryan Singer's X-Men. Marsden returned to the role several times over the years, including the sequels X2: X-Men UnitedX-Men: The Last Stand, and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Marsden has played a recurring role in 20th Century Fox's X-Men series, but there have also been several movies that the actor hasn't been a part of. There is, of course, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine trilogy, which consisted of X-Men: Origins Wolverine, The Wolverine, and Logan. Marsden also hasn't played a role in Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool movies or the prequel films X-Men: First Class and X-Men: ApocalypseNeedless to say, Fox has been going in a new direction with their X-Men films in recent years, which hasn't found a need for Marsden's Cyclops (replacing him with Tye Sheridan). That being said, Marsden is open to returning to the role.

After being asked by Comicbook, Marsden seemed more than willing to return to the role of Cyclops, if and when his character gets introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After being asked about the possibility of him joining the MCU, Marsden commented, "Sure, I'd be down. I think that world, there just are no rules. You can do whatever you want. If there's some iteration down the line where we're involved... that's been a special thing to be a part of for a good period of my life and I love those fans and I love playing that character, so yeah, I'd be totally open to that."

The past ten years have no doubt been a huge decade for superhero movies. Thanks to Marvel Studios, several famous superheroes have been brought to the big screen. That being said, several other movie studios have made superhero flicks with the characters they hold the rights to as well. 20th Century Fox has held the rights to two of the most famous superhero teams, Fantastic Four and X-Men, but with Disney acquiring 20th Century Fox, these characters could one day be introduced to the MCU. Even with Marsden's willingness to return to Cyclops, he more than likely won't get the opportunity to play the character in the MCU.

Like most characters that have been adopted into the MCU, Disney's X-Men movies will likely recast the famous mutants and reboot their storylines. In fact, Deadpool looks to be the only X-Men character that will transition over to Disney. This year, Avengers: Endgame is thought to be wrapping up several characters' storylines, but that doesn't mean the X-Men will be introduced to the MCU right away. Disney likely won't release a new X-Men movie until 2021 at the earliest, but they could still tease or introduce X-Men characters in their upcoming films. Even if Disney does introduce Cyclops into the MCU in the next few years, Marsden likely won't return to his iconic role for these reasons.
