Warning: spoilers ahead for Knights of X #3 and X-Men #12!

Just as Rogue is ending her X-Men tenure in favor of new adventures, her husband and fellow mutant hero Gambit has been murdered in Otherworld. This wouldn't be a problem had Remy been killed anywhere else, but Otherworld's mystic nature is the one exception to the X-Men's ability to resurrect fallen heroes. And when Rogue finds out that Remy is dead, fans are likely to see her powers unleashed like never before.

X-Men #12 from Gerry Duggan, Pepe Larraz, Marte Gracia, and Clayton Cowles serves as a final issue for the first iteration of the Krakoan X-Men squad. Among the heroes set to depart the team is Rogue. Specifically, Rogue declares, "Right now, my destiny lies elsewhere. Irene's in a fit, saying that only I can prevent 'mutants walking through a gate and never returning' or some nonsense." Knights of X #3, by Tini Howard, Bob Quinn, Erick Arciniega, and Ariana Maher, was released the very same week. In it, Gambit sacrifices his life before his entire team while fighting off Merlyn. Gambit did use Saturnyne's Death tarot card, so there may be some magical mischief at work. As it stands though, Gambit has died in Otherworld, meaning he can no longer be brought back.

Given the likelihood that Destiny's prophecy refers to the teleportation gate to Otherworld, it's reasonable for fans to expect Rogue to soon get involved with the Knights of X, who evolved out of her former Excalibur team. Merlyn, Morgana, and anyone else in Otherworld that stands to gain from Gambit's death ought to watch their backs for Anna Marie. Her mutant power to copy and intermingle other's powers combined with the magical enhancements that Otherworld bestows on mutant gifts already make her a formidable threat, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. This is because Rogue still permanently has Wonder Man's powers, the full extent of which she has yet to utilize. That may change if Gambit's death inspires Rogue to leave her limits behind.

While working with the Avengers' Unity Squad, Rogue absorbed Wonder Man entirely. Though Simon Williams has returned to full personhood since, Rogue still retains his abilities. This endows her with superhuman strength, durability, speed, flight, agility, and reflexes as well as ionic energy manipulation in the form of solid energy projections and force blasts from the hands and eyes. Rogue does not typically use the full Wonder Man suite of abilities, but the death of her husband may be enough to motivate her to change that.

If Rogue unleashes the full extent of her Wonder Man powers to exact revenge for Gambit's murder, the results would be truly devastating for her enemies. It would be akin to facing down a rage-blinded Superman. For the sake of Otherworld's survival, here's hoping that Gambit's death was part of some larger scheme that comes to light before Rogue's rage is set loose.
