Jessica Jones actor Wil Traval hinted on his Twitter a few months ago that he had been cast in next year's superhero sequel X-Men: Dark Phoenix. The post-First Class generation of X-Men actors will get their chance at the famous Dark Phoenix storyline after the first cast took on elements of the story in X-Men: The Last Stand.

Most of what is known about Dark Phoenix is speculative at this point. In the ten-year jump style of X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse, it is expected that the film takes place in the 1990s and there are rumors that major series performers like James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Nicholas Hoult will return.

Wil Traval, who is best known for his role as Officer Will Simpson in Season 1 of Marvel and Netflix's Jessica Jones, seemingly announced on his Twitter account that he would have a role in the upcoming installment of the X-Men franchise.

I am gonna be in heaven #DarkPhoenix #xmen7 #JeanGrey #EverythingEverything— Wil Traval (@WilTraval) April 22, 2017

UPDATE: Traval has since clarified that he will NOT be appearing in Dark Phoenix (see his Tweet below). The rest of this article has been left as it was originally published.

'I am going to be heaven' because I am looking forward to the film. Nothing more to it. #notinthemovie— Wil Traval (@WilTraval) June 11, 2017

This casting is not confirmed, nor is there any real detail to who Traval will be playing if he is in the film, but his tweet suggests it's something worth getting excited about. The Dark Phoenix storyline is considered a classic in comic-books, centered around the rise of Jean Grey's extremely powerful telepathic powers and her subsequent corruption. Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner is the only cast member confirmed to return, reprising the role of Jean Grey from Apocalypse. Longtime X-Men writer and producer Simon Kinberg has reportedly been in talks to direct Dark Phoenix, taking over from Bryan Singer.

The actor will be returning to his role as Simpson in Season 2 of Jessica Jones, which is currently filming, with word suggesting that this run will see the character transition into his super-villain counterpart Nuke. He has also appeared in other TV shows like Once Upon a Time, Dexter and Arrow

We know little about Dark Phoenix, but with the X-Men universe rapidly expanding thanks to Deadpool and the upcoming New Mutants film (which is said to have horror elements) it's sure to take us to some new places. In regards to Traval, he shown he's a capable enough actor to work in superhero fare, particularly in some sort of menacing, dark role, so would be quite a get for Fox.
