X-Men: Olivia Munn May Be Reprising Psylocke for Dark Phoenix

Olivia Munn as Psylocke in X-Men: Apocalypse

Olivia Munn's mutant Betsy Braddock/Psylocke from X-Men: Apocalypse may be returning for next year's sequel X-Men: Dark Phoenix, it would appear.

One of the major criticisms from those who didn't enjoy last summer's X-Men: Apocalypse was the overabundance of characters who were either underutilized or otherwise wasted. One of the characters consistently pointed out as a prime example of this criticism is Psylocke, the energy-wielding mutant played by the former Attack of the Show host, who was one of Apocalypse's four horsemen. Munn had much a small handful of lines and only really sprang into action during the movie's big climax, eventually escaping from the battle when Apocalypse was defeated by Sophie Turner's Jean Grey. It's been speculate that the character would return for the Dark Phoenix saga, and this new report lends further credibility to the idea.

With Dark Phoenix set to begin filming in Montreal very soon, Omega Underground has placed Munn in the same city as the production, after she posted a picture on her Instagram story with her location on it. Munn landed at the Toronto airport early Friday with a suitcase that seems to imply that she is not making a brief stay there. With principal photography on Dark Phoenix expected to get underway within the month, the implication is that Munn will either have a larger role to play this time around and/or is filming her scenes in the next X-Men movie earlier during production.

This should be taken as a rumor under further notice, seeing as there has been no confirmation from 20th Century Fox or director Simon Kinberg that Munn will return for Dark Phoenix. There's a chance that Munn is in Canada to do reshoots on the recently-wrapped Shane Black sequel The Predatora film in which she has a major role. Filming for that movie took place in Vancouver, which is on the other end of Canada, so that theory seems to falls apart. Other projects that Munn is currently attached to include The LEGO Ninjango Movie, Ocean's Eightand Dick Move.

Still, despite its rumor status, Munn's return for Dark Phoenix seems like a viable possibility considering that the film is returning the majority of the major cast that survived Apocalypse. This would be a juicy opportunity to rectify the lack of development for Psylocke in that film, giving her more chances to show off her power and appeal in the latest mutant conflict. Munn's acting skills vary from role to role, but she didn't leave a negative impression in her brief time in Apocalypse, so it's worth giving her another chance to play the role.
