The team of X-Men have brand new costumes in a new set photo from X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Over the last 18 years of Fox's X-Men universe, there's been several iterations of the team. Hugh Jackman's Wolverine led the first, but upon a clever reboot in X-Men: First Class, younger versions of pre-established characters took over. That team didn't last long, which led Professor X to form a new team by the end of X-Men: Apocalypse.
The film's ending set up the team that would take the focus in a sequel, which is coming later this year in Dark Phoenix. As the title implies, they're redoing the Dark Phoenix Saga, putting the burden on new Jean Grey (Sophie Turner). She's not alone in this new team led by Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and Beast (Nicholas Hoult). Younger versions of Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Quicksilver (Evan Peters), and Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee) round out the roster.
Last time we saw the group, they were just starting their team training in the Danger Room. It was here that new stylish costumes were shown for each, as they were promoted to the big leagues. Those costumes apparently didn't last long, as a new set photo from Dark Phoenix surfaced online today from XavierFiles that reveals brand new suits. While certainly not as detailed as their last designs, they are close to how the X-Men looked in Grant Morrison's New X-Men run that began in 2001.

The quality of this picture isn't great, but from this look it appears Dark Phoenix is leaving the more tactical suits behind for spandex. The new costumes do feel like they're from a comic book (and should based on the New X-Men look above), but it may not transfer on the big screen. It's simply too early to judge, but they definitely evoke a more cohesive look for the team - instead of the different costumes they each wore before. That's all to say, this is just a raw set photo, so the actual suits will hopefully look better after going through color correction and other post-production steps.
While the focus of this photo is rightfully on the new costumes, who is surrounding the group could also be important. This scene is going to require a big CGI backdrop thanks to the blue screen surrounding the set, and it may be the beginning of the team's journey into space. The five men surrounding them all appear to be wearing spacesuits, and early plot details confirmed the team would be sent on a space rescue mission. It is during this mission that Jean begins her transformation into the Phoenix, so what is pictured may be one of the last times Jean is just Jean. With the summer movie season approaching, it likely won't be long before a trailer arrives, and hopefully offers up a better look at these new suits.
