Bennet is already part of the MCU thanks to her role as main character Daisy Johnson on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but could she soon focus her attention elsewhere? Now that the MCU has secured the rights to the X-Men, the internet is already awash with possible reboots and casting rumors for who could be playing those marvelous mutants. Bennet may seem like a pretty low-key choice to play the likes of Rogue, but it is an interesting one to say the least.
Of course, it is over to fan artist BossLogic to give their interpretation of another potential casting, and you can see what Bennet might look like if she hopped over from S.H.I.E.L.D. to gain some mutant powers:
Note that BossLogic goes for Rogue's classic yellow and green lycra, an outfit that '90s kids will remember from the lauded X-Men: The Animated Series. The Foxverse may have shied away from the "classic" X-Men costumes of the comics, but could the family-friendly Disney give Xavier's team their long-awaited spandex suits?
The Rogue situation is a funny one, representing one of the best-loved members of the X-Men and a character the movies have never quite nailed. Anna Paquin famously played Marie in the first three X-Men movies after being a major part of Bryan Singer's original. However, after Matthew Vaughn introduced a soft reboot with 2011's X-Men: First Class, Paquin's role was controversially cut from sequel Days of Future Past sequel. Although there was the "Rogue Cut" release, fandom was outraged that yet another X-Men staple was cast aside. Since then, everyone has been waiting for another appearance from the flame-haired heroine, with the Fox buyout being the perfect opportunity.
Fellow MCU alumni Chris Hemsworth has said he can't wait for the X-Men to make their Disney debut, and it seems he isn't alone in his thoughts. However, while Rogue could make her debut alongside Charles and the rest of the team, there are other rumors that she could find a place alongside Channing Tatum in the much-delayed Gambit. Given that Gambit and Rogue share one of Marvel's best comic book romances, why wouldn't the smooth-talking Cajun cross paths with his chéri? Whether it is Bennet or anyone else who lands the role of Rogue, expect the character to become a major part of the new X-Men as Kevin Feige and co. slowly integrate the mutants alongside the longstanding Avengers as we move into a new era for the MCU beyond 2019.
