In the weeks since San Diego Comic Con, a number of the trailers presented in Hall H have made their way online in official capacities from the studios themselves. New looks at Suicide Squad, Batman v Superman, and Deadpool have all been released to the general public following the convention. The sneak peek shown for X-Men: Apocalypse at SDCC, however, is still nowhere to be seen.
Perhaps the reason for that is the fact that when the film was shown off during Fox's Hall H presentation, the visual effects in the trailer were still rough and in their early stages. It makes sense that director Bryan Singer would not want his film to be seen with unfinished effects, even if that means general audiences have to wait a couple of months to get their first look at it. Also, when Fox unveiled the early trailer at SDCC, only five weeks of filming had been done for Apocalypse. Since then, production has wrapped on the film, meaning the studio should finally have all the footage for the first trailer ready to go.
The next question, then, is when will fans finally get to see the first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse. While no official date has been given as of yet, a new report from Heroic Hollywood claims the trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse will be attached to The Martian when it is released on October 2nd next month, and will possibly be online sometime before then. This report comes only a few days after leaked images of Apocalypse and Archangel made their way to the internet.
While the trailer release date should still be taken with a grain of salt at this point since it is unofficial, releasing the X-Men: Apocalypse trailer alongside Ridley Scott's The Martian does make sense. Both are Fox productions and The Martian is likely to bring out a fairly large audience when it hits theaters this October. Plus, the first trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past came out around the same time ahead of its release as well, so if it's not attached to The Martian, there's still a good chance we may be seeing it sooner rather than later.
Back when an early trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse was shown at Comic-Con, it offered sneak peeks at some of the newer characters, including Oscar Isaac's villain Apocalypse and some of the new mutants like Tye Sheridan's Cyclops, Sophie Turner's Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp's Storm, and Olivia Munn's Psylocke, among others. While it is possible that the first official trailer may have a slightly different cut put together, it's still likely Singer will want to debut these important new characters in the trailer.
In similar news, Munn recently uploaded a video to Instagram giving a look at some the fighting skills she recently acquired for her role in Apocalypse.
Among the new mutants making their debuts in Apocalypse, Psylocke is one of the more experienced, evidently. How these fighting skills factor into the film itself remain to be seen, but at the very least we know Oscar Isaac's Apocalypse is going to have plenty of help when trying to take down the X-Men, as it was confirmed at SDCC that Munn's Psylocke will be one of Apocalypse's four horsemen - the other three being Michael Fassbender's Magneto, Shipp's Storm and Ben Hardy's Angel/Archangel.
X-Men: Apocalypse opens in theaters in the U.S. on May 27, 2016; Deadpool on February 12th, 2016; Gambit on October 7th, 2016; Wolverine 3 on March 3rd, 2017; Fantastic Four 2 on June 9th, 2017; and some as-yet unspecified X-Men film on July 13th, 2018. The New Mutants is also in development.
