The world of the X-Men has been forever changed, giving the mutants of Marvel's universe a new start. Now more powerful than ever before, they're set to begin a new age for the heroes and readers alike--and it all begins with X-Men #1.
Having given Marvel the reboot they were searching for with House of X and Powers of X, writer Jonathan Hickman is now launching the new line-up of X-Men comics, pairing with artist Leinil Francis Yu for the flagship series. With the set-up now finished, the time has come for Hickman to make the X-Men "his own personal toys to play with." The only request from Marvel is that he take all of the energy from the relaunch and "reinvigoration" of the entire X-Men universe, and put it into a single comic. That comic is X-Men #1 arriving October 16th, and Marvel has released a new trailer to celebrate the occasion.
Hickman and Yu's X-Men is just one of the new comics fleshing out the universe, with The Marauders, Excalibur, New Mutants, and more spinning directly out of the House of X and Powers of X series. But the new age officially begins with this single issue, so readers can check out the brand new trailer and teaser synopsis for X-Men #1 below:
A new dawn has broken for mutantkind, and their current status quo has sent reverberations around the globe! Mutant mastermind Jonathan Hickman has changed the game for Homo Superior and now is ushering in an era of Marvel storytelling the likes of which has never been seen before!
The island nation of Krakoa is firmly established, and the X-Men are finally free to truly forge their own path in the world. All mutants are living under one flag – and any of them can be called upon to be an X-Man! With a rotating cast of characters both heroic and villainous, mainstays, fan-favorites, and obscurities alike will all have their chance to shine!
The road to this point has been filled with continuity changes, massive shifts in mutant philosophy, and some might argue the death of Charles Xavier's dream altogether. But as Hickman explains, it was all to give the mutants a new status quo that leaves them in a brighter place, as opposed to facing down a grim or doomed future for mutants as they have for so many years. Which also means Hickman can tell... just about any thrilling story he decides:
Well when we leave everything at the end of House of X, we have a mutant nation state, the mutants are winning, the X-Men are winning. Which is a wonderful thing after the last couple of years... I think the cool thing about the way that we're doing it now is that it's structured so that I can kind of tell any X-Men story I want to.
Fans are sure to pick up their copy of X-Men #1 in droves, which guarantees more discussion, controversy, and passionate debate--assuming Hickman's X-Men reboot to this point is any indication. Interested readers can find the first cover image and solicitation details below:
