The new line of Marvel's X-Men comics have seen a number of new teams created, scattered, and reunited. But one thing that hasn't been as clear is the new version of X-Force, promised to be a newer, bigger, and more sophisticated incarnation. And finally, it looks like the time has come to get the team together.
When the new X-Men teams and books were first announced, the X-Force series was singled out as something different for longtime readers. With writer Ben Percy at the helm (along with the new Wolverine series, as well), the promise was made of an evolution for X-Force. Not just a black ops team, or a deadly private army. The new X-Force would be the equivalent of the CIA for the new mutant nation. That kind of organization would certainly have come in handy when Charles Xavier was assassinated. But apparently... the mutants themselves agree. And in the official preview for X-Force #4, the mutant leaders are finally taking the steps to make X-Force the intelligence agency fans have been waiting to see.
Seeing Charles Xavier alive and well is no surprise, since the entire X-Men relaunch is based on the idea that mutants can now resurrect their dead. Still, the attack has sent a message to the members of Krakoa's quiet council. Rather than summarizing their conclusions, readers can see them for themselves in the preview pages below:
The full issue will hopefully help to explain how the new X-Force takes shape, how the members are chosen, and exactly what tasks this new 'mutant CIA' is charged with completing. But for the time being, fans can rest easy knowing that in a reboot filled with skipped-over details, and shaky continuity, they may get to see X-Force born every step of the way.
