X-Force Movie May 'Reintroduce' Characters From Deadpool 2

Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Deadpool 2.

The upcoming X-Force film may spend some time reintroducing characters from Deadpool 2. This will not only happen in a conventional narrative sense but also in a very literal sense due to the time traveling shenanigans at the end of Wade Wilson's latest raunchy adventure.

Deadpool 2 is poised to be a massive hit; it's already shattering box office records for an R-rated film. It's also setting the stage for a further expansion of this corner of the X-Men universe, as it will unite Deadpool, Cable, and Domino, among others, for an X-Force movie. Deadpool 2 briefly brings together a version of that super team - featuring the likes of Shatterstar, Bedlam, Zeitgeist, Vanisher, and dear, sweet Peter - before immediately killing off the X-Force team in a hilarious, violently pointless fashion. But Deadpool 2's end credits scene suggests audiences may not have seen the last of at least one of those ill-fated heroes, if not more.

In an interview with BlackFilm, Zazie Beetz confirms she'll be back as Domino in X-Force, and she suggests that the film will spend some time reintroducing audiences to the team. In one sense, that's not a surprising revelation; films like Avengers and Justice League spent at least a little bit of time reintroducing characters established in previous films.

Deadpool 2 Peter

Interestingly, Deadpool 2's mid-credits scene means this could be far more complicated in the case of X-Force. After having Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Yukio repair Cable's time travel device, Deadpool goes back in time to save his murdered girlfriend Vanessa, prevent Peter's accidental death at the hands of Zeitgeist's vomit, kill the version of Deadpool seen in the reviled X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and shoot Ryan Reynolds in the head before he can make Green Lantern.

Some of these are obviously tongue in cheek silliness (you can still buy Green Lantern on Blu-ray, much to Reynolds' chagrin), but saving Vanessa and Peter would seem to have real narrative ramifications going forward. Rob Delaney's Peter has become something of a cult sensation, and it's hard to imagine he wouldn't play some role in the X-Force film. Peter was the last member of the ramshackle X-Force to die, however, and it didn't appear Deadpool made any effort to save the others. So, it seems unlikely Shatterstar or Bedlam will be showing up again.

Vanessa's resurrection raises the most questions, since her death occurs early in the film and fuels the entire plot that it's reasonable to question how much of Deadpool 2 still happens. It seems unlikely X-Force would take the extreme, Doctor Who-level of time travel plot that would involve undoing essentially all of Deadpool 2. Instead, it's just as likely the character will make some sort of fourth-wall-breaking joke about time travel and X-Force will go along its merry way. In either case, it's unlikely many people will have a problem getting reacquainted with the heroes of Deadpool 2.
