X-Files 2 to come out 2008, says Duchovny

David Duchovny says that the second X-Files movie will go into production soon for a release next year, Gillian Anderson is onboard, series creator Chris Carter is co-writing, along with popular writer/producer Frank Spotnitz (who was doing the cancelled, but in my opinion cool Night Stalker TV revamp in 2005), and directing.

So, what do I think?

Before I answer, here's a little background on The X-Files and I. I watched The X-Files on occasion, with my best friend and fellow scifi geek Alex (he watched almost every episode), and always enjoyed it. I guess when they moved to L.A. I kinda fell out of watching it occasionally, but for me, bringing in the T-1000 (Robert Patrick) breathed a little bit of new life into it. And, yes, I stand by that comment. Oh, and I read a lot of the tie-in books, including Ruins and Whirlwind, and enjoyed the movie, especially when I re-watched it about a month ago one night. And it made more sense, as I had been watching some of the episodes over the last few years.

Anyway, around January 2003, about a year after the cancellation, I saw the pilot and second episode of season 1. I was so hooked, I went out and bought the first season on DVD, which I believe is one of the first TV series to ever have a full season go to DVD, and got back into it. I have most of the seasons and when I can, I watch the episodes in order. I think you can get the slim cases for around $30 to $35 on most popular retail sites.

So, after that little bit of background, am I excited about The X-Files movie part 2? You bet! It'll have been 10 years since the slickly Rob Bowman-directed first film, and I think we need a new movie. I can't wait to get back into the world of Mulder and Scully, along with the scifi/horror themes. I also think X-Files brought more of a film-style sensibility to television series, so I say bring it on! Besides, I think enough time has past since the show ended, the last season came out on DVD, the video game's release on PS2 and so on. It's time!

Of course, I'd love to hear what everyone thinks, especially Vic, who has strong opinions about any new X-Files things (TV shows, movies or whatever).
