The indie production company A24 has a new slasher film, X, and here's everything we know. The company has made a name for itself for its campy, creepy-toned horror films in the past few years. Notable mentions include Ari Aster’s Hereditary (2018) and Midsommar (2019), as well as Kevin Smith’s Tusk (2014), Trey Edward Shult’s It Comes at Night (2017), and Rose Glass’ Saint Maud (2019), to name a few.
The new slasher film is directed by Ti West, who is known for his films The Roost (2005), The House of the Devil (2009), and The Innkeepers (2011). X was announced in November 2020 and began filming in 2021. Much of A24’s upcoming horror/arthouse movie is filmed in the city of Whanganui, New Zealand, at a farm in the settlement of Fordell.

A24’s X has an official release date to hit theaters on March 18th, 2022. X will be released exclusively in theaters, as opposed to direct streaming. Usually, films begin streaming about 30 to 45 days after their initial release; So, those who are not comfortable going to theaters yet will still get a chance to see the film in the near future.

A24’s X has a cast that is no stranger to the slasher film scene. Starring as the lead roles are Mia Goth (A Cure For Wellness), Jenna Ortega (Scream 2022), Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect), Scott Mescudi, a.k.a Kid Cudi (A Man Named Scott), and Martin Henderson (Off The Map). Mia Goth and Jenna Ortega are familiar faces for horror: Aside from Scream 2022, Ortega also was in an episode of the Netflix horror drama You, as well as the horror film The Babysitter: Killer Queen. Goth has been in many horror films, most notably Marrowbone and the Suspiria remake. Brittany Snow was in the 2008 Prom Night remake, as well as the thriller/horror film Would You Rather (2012).

Ti West’s upcoming horror film appears bloody and raunchy, following a group of adult filmmakers who travel to rural Texas to film their movie The Farmer's Daughter. Maxine (Mia Goth) is the star of the film, and the group, nowhere to go, stays at an elderly couple's farmhouse. Things get strange very quickly, and disturbing things start happening around them.

The trailer for A24’s X was released on January 12th, 2022. The elderly wife does some very creepy things in the trailer, from being fully naked touching Maxine (Goth) and Brittany Snow’s character saying the out-of-context line, “If Daddy catches us, there's no telling what he might do.” The trailer doesn’t give too much away, but it feels like an homage to 1970s horror films taking place in 1979. From the looks of the trailer, X will be different from other horror movies.
