The Wynonna Earp season 3 trailer is here. The wild, western show tells the story of Wynonna Earp (Melanie Scrofano), the great-granddaughter of the famed gunslinger Wyatt Earp. Wynonna is tasked with killing Revenants, demons who were previously killed by Wyatt and now wreak havoc on the small town of Purgatory. She is helped in this mission by her younger sister Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley), the previously immortal Doc Holliday (Tim Rozon), and Deputy Marshall Xavier Dolls (Shamier Anderson), who has a mysterious past all his own. The series is based on an IDW comic book created by Beau Smith.

Season 2 of Wynonna Earp included Scrofano's real life pregnancy, creating a very different and revolutionary female hero on screen. Wynonna had to deal with all the joys that come with being pregnant as well as her typical demon killing. She also had to contend with the paternity of her child (and sister) with the fear that both could be half Revenant. Oh and she also woke up the demon Bulshar Clootie, which is sure to cause some problems in the season to come.

Syfy Wire has released the trailer for season 3, which sets an ominous tone. There is the classic Wynonna Earp humor of course, but things also seem darker than usual. The trailer gives glimpses of some of the new characters to join the show, including Megan Follows as Mama Earp (wielding Peacemaker) and Chantal Riley as Kate (seen kissing Doc). Also seen is Jeremey (Varun Saranga) with a mustache rivaling Doc's, and a kiss between Waverly and Nicole Haught (Kat Barrell), which hopefully means WayHaught is still going strong.

Waverly doesn't seem to be doing too well this season, at least from what the trailer reveals. There are images showing her being dragged as well as what appears to be a nightmare like dream sequence. There's also a mysterious black hat-wearing figure in the trailer- could he be the season's big bad? The trailer aired during the panel for the show at the ATX Television Festival. The cast and show's creator Emily Andreas were on hand to introduce the trailer and tease the upcoming season. According to Deadline, during the panel Andres spoke about the emotional place Wynonna is in this season.

“Wynonna is more determined than ever because she and Doc [Holliday] had to do something fairly significant which is giving up their child. It really feels like this team is taking on this very definitive goal which is this demon who cursed the Earps in the first place named Bulshar… the stakes and the consequences are bigger this year.”

While not a huge mainstream hit, Wynonna Earp has quickly become a cult success, earning both positive reviews and a loyal fan following. The title character herself is also in many ways unlike just about any female protagonist to be found elsewhere on the small screen. What surprises will season 3 have in store? There's only way to find out, and that's to tune in.
