On the first ever episode of WWE‘s Smackdown brand on FOX, Becky Lynch and The Rock shared a memorable moment to kick off the show. The blue brand’s move to FOX has been highly-anticipated for more than a year. A lot happened on the premiere, not all of it warmly-received, but fans loved seeing The Man and The People’s Champ team up.

In a lot of ways, the segment was a continuation of the wild run that Lynch has been having. Propelled by the support of the fans, Lynch defeated Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair in the main event of Wrestlemania earlier this year. Along the way, she matched up to Edge on the mic. She got in the face of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon and she’s been endorsed by legends like Stone Cold Steve Austin. Lynch is already solidified as one of WWE’s top stars; factoring heavily into the promotion for Smackdown in preparation of the move. But for many in the audience, it was still a huge treat to see Lynch share the ring with The Rock. The reaction online, and in the arena, reflected this.

The episode began with Lynch coming out to the ring to give a quick statement to the fans. Considering that Lynch’s rise began and flourished on Smackdown for many years, the decision makes sense. Lynch is also heavily rumored to be moving back to the blue brand, full-time, in next week’s draft. Before she could move on to her scheduled match, Lynch was interrupted by King Corbin. Corbin has played a pompous, delusional character for some time. This has only increased since he won King of The Ring.

Corbin was quickly interrupted, in turn, by The Rock. Making his first appearance on WWE TV in three years, Rock soaked in the reaction at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and fired off some of his most memorable catchphrases. Rock quickly then turned his attention to Corbin. Becky and Lynch insulted the King of the Ring winner in terms which have to be heard to be fully appreciated.

They then took turns hitting Corbin with their signature moves, in what might be considered a moment where the torch was passed from one superstar to another. For Becky, as well, it could be considered payback since Corbin ruthlessly attacked her back in the summer. Not everything on the debut episode of Smackdown was so popular. Brock Lesnar’s stunningly quick defeat of Kofi Kingston in the main event caused a divide among viewers, as did the subsequent arrival of Cain Velasquez.

But on the positive side, Kevin Owens banished Shane McMahon from WWE in a ladder match that was described as ‘awesome.’ The Fiend had one of his weirdest, scariest segments yet. Braun Strowman mixed it up with Tyson Fury. And the women’s division got a huge spotlight. The debut does suggest what the priorities for Smackdown might be going forward.
