Road Dogg has traveled the roads with Triple H as a wrestler in WWE, while he later worked backstage alongside Vince McMahon, which gives him a unique insight into what makes both men tick. Many people have worked closely with one or the other, but Jesse James has seen how both Hunter and Vince operate behind the scenes. So when he talks about the differences between the two, it has to carry at least a little water.
The Game took over as head of creative last month and has already begun shaping the WWE in his image. He called up IYO SKY from NXT, Dakota Kai, Dexter Lumis, and Karrion Kross were all brought back to WWE, and word is that he isn't done adding talent yet. Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown already feel different to viewers, as Triple H has some tricks up his sleeve that McMahon either didn't like, didn't think about, or never utilized. The shows have a natural flow, turning the usual three-hour slog of Raw into a free-form wrestling exhibit that is easy to consume.
On a recent edition of Road Dogg's podcast, Oh You Didn't Know..., the WWE Hall of Famer offered insight into what is different between Triple H and McMahon. "I don't think they see things that differently... one was a promoter and then became the owner of a company. And then one was just a top guy talent who learned from the school of hard knocks by being a top guy and working under Vince as to how to make business decisions and some life decisions, too." Road Dogg then put a bow on his thoughts with this summary: "I think they both have very similar leadership strategies, but as far as talent, look, Vince likes a bigger guy, and Hunter likes a better wrestler."
Road Dogg Confirms What Fans Already Knew About McMahon and Triple H
Audiences could have discerned that McMahon prefers larger wrestlers like Brock Lesnar and Hulk Hogan, while performers like Ciampa and Johnny Gargano are more favored by Triple H. Hearing Road Dogg confirm that perception, though, is certainly refreshing.
For years, fans have had graceless giants shoved down their throats by McMahon while smaller, more technical wrestlers sank down the card. There are a few notable exceptions, of course. Namely, two of AEW's top stars in CM Punk and Bryan Danielson, but by and large, McMahon preferred body-builder types. Triple H also has an eye for those kinds of performers but is much more open to utilizing talents like Finn Balor and a potentially returning Gargano.
