Disney unveiled the second trailer for Ava DuVernay's A Wrinkle In Time during the 2017 American Music Awards. Based on the science fiction/fantasy novel by Madeleine L'Engle, Disney has been developing the adaptation for some time, but it wasn't until DuVernay joined A Wrinkle in Time in 2016 that there seemed to be real momentum behind the project. After being given a 2018 release date, A Wrinkle in Time wrapped filming earlier this year and debuted the movie's first trailer as this summer's D23 event.

Now, Disney is ramping up the promotional push for A Wrinkle in Time ahead of its March 2018 release date. After a trailer teaser for A Wrinkle in Time debuted on Friday during Good Morning America, along with a new poster spotlighting the stars of the movie, Disney unveiled a second trailer for DuVernay's latest project during the AMAs.

The latest trailer for A Wrinkle in Time [above] offers a new look at the movie, which follows Meg Murray (Storm Reid) as she searches for her astrophysicist father - Dr. Alex Murray (Chris Pine) - along with her genius little brother Charles Wallace (Deric McCabe) and classmate Calvin O'Keefe (Levi Miller). With the help of three astral travelers named Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey), Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon), and Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling), Meg journeys to save her father.

DuVernay directed A Wrinkle in Time from a script by Jennifer Lee (Frozen, Wreck-It Ralph). In addition to those listed above, the film stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Meg's mother Dr. Kate Murray, Michael Peña as Red, and Zach Galifianakis as Happy Medium. DuVernay's hiring to direct A Wrinkle in Time made her the first woman of color to direct a $100 million movie, and helped Disney become the studio with the most projects directed by women.

As showcased in the new trailer for A Wrinkle in Time, DuVernay has adapted L'Engle's source material into a wildly colorful movie full of trippy visuals and fantastical creatures. Plus, we get to see more of the characters - and, in the case of Mrs. Which, Mrs. Whatsit, and Mrs. Who, more of their mesmerizing wardrobes - particularly the warrior at the center of the film. Reid's Meg is the central hero of the story, as she ventures on the journey to save her father by way of the fifth dimension, and she's given the opportunity to shine in this second trailer for the movie.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether Disney and DuVernay will have a hit on their hands when A Wrinkle in Time hits theaters early next year. But with that said, the trailers for the film have teased an altogether different kind of sci-fi/fantasy adventure. And with the Summer 2017 box office struggling under the weight of too many sequels, a movie as wholly unique as A Wrinkle in Time could certainly prove to a blockbuster in the most literal sense. For fans excited to see DuVernay's take on L'Engle's novel, there's only a few months left until A Wrinkle in Time is released.
