Racing game fans are going to have a massive playground to create and race in, as the newly-announced Wreckreation is home to MixWorlds that are over 400 square kilometers in size, where players can create their own racing paradise. Wreckreation is being developed by Three Fields Entertainment, which is the same studio behind Dangerous Driving from 2019.

The sandbox genre seems like an odd one to combine with the racing genre, but there are plenty of titles that merge the two. There is a huge audience for racing games that offer streamlined experiences that are true to life, like Gran Turismo, with tracks based on real places and vehicles based on real machines, with realism being the key to their success. There are also more lighthearted kart racing games, like Mario Kart, which are more about multiplayer party experiences, with players able to influence the track with items and special abilities. Sandbox racing games are more about letting players create their own tracks to perform daring stunts, or explore huge environments behind the wheel of a car.

Wreckreation was one of the new games revealed during the THQ Nordic 2022 Digital Showcase and it's currently in development for PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with no set release date. Wreckreation is an open-world sandbox racing game, which puts players on a massive 400 square kilometer MixWorld, allowing them to take part in races, perform stunts, and create content with their friends. The trailer for Wreckreation can be seen on the official THQ Nordic YouTube channel.

Wreckreation Gives Racing Fans A Massive Playground To Create/Race

The MixWorlds in Wreckreation allow players to create a world of their own design, where the experience can be about creating outlandish tracks and sharing them online, being the best racer, or performing the best stunts. The creation mode has an almost instantaneous response time when placing items, allowing players to quickly throw together different elements to make a track, with a free camera that makes designing things easy. There are also numerous customization options available for the vehicles, ranging from cosmetic to performance tweaks. Wreckreation also has 16 old-school FM radio channels, but players can also stream songs from their Premium Spotify list.

Players in Wreckreaction can spend their time setting one of seven different records, building new areas on their island in Vacant Lots, or just racing with friends online. The trailer shows off massive, impressive stunt areas that are more akin to roller coasters than racetracks. Wreckreation is a game that's more about the freedom of building the biggest and best stunt tracks in the world, rather than more realistic racing game experiences that contain the fun to a single stage.
