Wreck-It Ralph 2 has a Stan Lee cameo - sort of. With the internet at Ralph Breaks the Internet's disposal, the long-awaited sequel to Wreck-It Ralph had plenty of fun including cameos of different sizes online. The entire library of Disney princesses was a major focus of Wreck-It Ralph 2's marketing, but they are just the beginning of Disney owned characters that make appearances. However, the most touching of the cameos comes with the surprise inclusion of Stan Lee.
Wreck-It Ralph 2 picks up six years after the events of the first film. Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman) must enter the internet in order to find a rare part for Sugar Rush after it was broken in the real world. Finding the replacement was not an issue, but not understanding how eBay works gives them just 24 hours to earn enough money to pay for the item. Through a series of viral videos, Ralph becomes the latest internet star and Vanellope decides she should help push traffic to his videos by spreading pop up ads.
This new job of hers takes her to Oh My Disney where Disney's entire library of characters instantly become part of the story. But, when Stormtroopers discover that she's spreading unwanted pop-ups, they chase after her so she can be detained for her crime. This forces Vanellope to run throughout the website to try and get away. She passes countless recognizable faces in the process and makes a scene as she does so.
It is during this chase that Vanellope races past an older online avatar, who turns around with his shocked expression to reveal none other than Stan Lee! He doesn't say a word but was interacting with Iron Man, who Lee co-created in 1963 for Marvel Comics.
The cameo means just a little bit more given recent events. Stan Lee passed away at the age of 95 on November 12, just over a week before Wreck-It Ralph 2's release. Although Lee is a comics legend, he's become a staple of the comic book movie rush in more ways than one. He helped create many of the characters currently at the forefront of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it also became a tradition for him to cameo in almost every Marvel movie. His cameo here shows once more his influence (even if Lee didn't actually lend his voice). Regardless, this won't be the final Stan Lee cameo fans see either, as he's confirmed to have filmed cameos in a few additional movies.
Stan Lee's Wreck-It Ralph 2 cameo is just the beginning of all the surprise appearances that Ralph Breaks the Internet includes, though. There's the expected video game-related cameos back at Litwak's Arcade, but the internet is filled with many others. Oh My Disney has plenty blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearances, while there's plenty of internet personalities that are brought to life in animated form. Disney even had a Kylo Ren joke at one point, but cut it from the movie. Stan Lee's cameo is obvious and rather straightforward, but it will likely take repeat viewings of Ralph Breaks the Internet to point out every single reference and cameo.
