A Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet image offers a new look at the film's take on classic Disney princesses, including modern outfits. In the 2010s, Walt Disney Animation Studios has experienced a great deal of success with their releases. From princess movies like Frozen and Moana to other kinds of adventures in Zootopia and Big Hero 6, the animation powerhouse has had a number of critical and box office hits. Now, after taking all of 2017 off - leaving Pixar to take the lead - Disney's main animation studio returns with a sequel to 2012's arcade adventure Wreck-It Ralph.

Ralph Breaks the Internet sees the return of odd-couple duo arcade game villain Ralph (John C. Reilly) and racing game princess Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman). However, instead of staying within the confines of all the games located within Litwak's Family Fun Center & Arcade, they'll venture out into the world wide web. At last summer's D23, it was revealed the Disney princesses would appear in Wreck-It Ralph 2, and the Ralph Breaks the Internet trailer showcased some of the classic characters. Now, though, fans of the Disney princesses get to see the ladies in a very different way: wearing modern outfits.

In a new photo from Ralph Breaks the Internet released by EW, the cast of Disney princesses are lounging around with Vanellope and dressed in more modern clothing - a strange sight for the typically gown-clad lot. The photo depicts The Little Mermaid's Ariel, Pocahontas, Cinderella, Frozen's Anna and Elsa, Snow White, Tangled's Rapunzel, Moana, The Princess and the Frog's Tiana, and Mulan. Take a look below.

Disney has evolved its official princess lineup over the decades, adding female protagonists from a variety of different cultures and races, including Pocahontas, Tiana, Mulan and Moana. Still, there has been plenty of discussion as more and more generations of girls grow up watching the Disney princess movies about whether the films instill progressive or regressive messages in viewers. According to Ralph Breaks the Internet co-star Silverman, the upcoming sequel had a chance to address those concerns in the movie through a discussion between the princesses and Vanellope. Silverman said:

The princesses and Vanellope learn a lot from each other, but what happens in that discussion is acknowledging the… I don’t want to say just blatant sexism, but the kind of dated, antiquated idea of princesses and bringing it up to a feminist — meaning equal — code.

It will be very interesting to see how Ralph Break the Internet portrays the different princesses included in the film. Since characters like Snow White, Cinderella, and the not-pictured Belle were created at a time when the discussion of feminism and female empowerment was much different, the Wreck-It Ralph sequel gives them a chance to take a modern reevaluation. Other more recent characters like Tiana, Anna, Elsa and Moana, of course, have been touted for bringing more modern ideas of femininity to the screen for the new generation of Disney viewers. Given what Silverman said and the clearly new designs in the latest photo, Ralph Breaks the Internet will undoubtedly allow long-time fans of Disney to see a very different side to the classic princesses.
